I turned 51 this week and naturally celebrated by doing some deeply inappropriate math.
How many years do I realistically have left? How many more mountains do my knees have in them? How much longer can my neck continue its slow migration into my chest?
You know. Normal birthday stuff.
Somewhere between calculating my remaining life expectancy and examining my rapidly disappearing jawline, I realized something:
I’m kind of running out of time.
And weirdly, that realization didn’t scare me nearly as much as I expected.
What scared me more was realizing how easy it had been to give so much of it away.
I always thought wasting your life would look like one spectacularly bad decision. I never considered how much of it could disappear in very small withdrawals.
So that’s what I wrote about for my 51st birthday.
Obviously.
