Friendly Reminder: Swallows Park & Boat Ramp Parking Rules 🚤🅿️

To help keep the Swallows Park Boat Ramp safe and accessible for everyone, please keep our parking guidelines in mind as you head out:

Oversized Vehicles: If your vehicle and boat trailer combination exceeds 42 feet in length, you must use the overflow and oversized lots.

Single Vehicles: Please park only in designated single-vehicle spots.

⚠️ Please Note: Citations may be issued to vehicles parked outside of their designated areas or not in accordance with posted signage.

National Safe Boating Week, May 16–22, marks the unofficial start of another busy recreation season on the Snake and Columbia rivers.

As the operator of the federal navigation locks that keep this 465-mile inland waterway open from Astoria, Oregon, to Lewiston, Idaho, the Walla Walla District helps move goods, support jobs, and connect communities across the Northwest. Safe, responsible boating protects that economic engine by reducing accidents, minimizing delays, and keeping emergency resources focused where they are needed most.

As you head out this season, wear your life jacket, know the conditions, and follow all posted guidance at USACE-managed facilities.

Warm air does NOT mean warm water!

While temperatures will warm into the 70s and 80s this weekend, our local lakes and rivers are still in the 40s and 50s. Jumping or falling into water this cold triggers an immediate, life-threatening "cold water shock" response. You can lose the ability to breathe and swim in a matter of minutes.

If you are enjoying the beautiful weather on the water this week, wear your life jacket. It could save your life.

🚨 IMPORTANT UPDATE FOR VISITORS 🚨

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Walla Walla District has banned alcohol at the Illia Dunes Recreation Area on Lake Bryan.

This decision was made to curb alcohol-related safety hazards, reduce incidents, and ensure our recreation areas remain a safe, enjoyable environment for all families and visitors. This action follows a similar, highly effective ban enacted at Granite Point in May 2022.

We appreciate your cooperation in helping us keep Illia Dunes safe and clean!

Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works Adam Telle visited the U.S. Department of Agriculture on Tuesday to discuss how U.S. Army Civil Works is supporting efforts to lower fertilizer costs for America’s farmers and ranchers.
From strengthening navigation systems to supporting critical infrastructure, Civil Works plays an important role in keeping agricultural goods moving and rural communities strong.

Here in the Northwest, the Lower Snake River (LSR) dams and the broader Columbia-Snake River System serve as a vital inland highway. By maintaining these reliable navigation locks, we ensure that essential agricultural inputs like fertilizer, as well as local crops, are transported efficiently and affordably to and from our local farming communities.

The Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works, Adam Telle, on Tuesday at U.S. Department of Agriculture discusses the critical role that U.S. Army Civil Works is playing in the Trump Administration's efforts to lower fertilizer prices for our farmers and ranchers.
