The recent intense winds brought down a big beech tree across our path, near the entrance to the woods.
Until we can get it cleared, this means our trail is temporarily not a full-circle loop. You can still walk the trail loop almost all the way clockwise by turning left immediately after coming through the entrance gate, then doubling back when you get to the fallen tree or before.
But please don’t try to climb over the fallen tree or attempt to move, cut or go around it!
We will dip into our reserve of donated funds to pay our regular tree service to clear the path very soon.
If you came on our recent tours, you may remember our guides saying that this is one of the key reasons we seek donations and welcome new memberships or renewals.
If you’re able to give, or want to join Friends of Miller Woods, please see https://www.millerwoods.com/join---support.html
Even after we clear the path, the rest of this tree will continue to be an important part of the woodland ecosystem, just like countless trees before it.
As it decomposes, the wood will feed trillions of microbes, fungi and plants. And the sun that streams through the opening where the tree once stood will give tiny new trees their own chance to get started.
