Friends of Plymouth Police and Plymouth County Sheriff Mounted Unit The Mounted Unit uses the 8 draft horses that are housed at the Plymouth County Farm on Obery St. Plymouth Mass. A special thanks goes out to Sheriff Joseph D.

The Mounted Unit is used for crowd control and public relations duty on the waterfront and downtown area of Plymouth throughout the summer. They are also used in search and rescue missions and beach patrols.

The Mounted Unit's would not exist with out the cooperation of the Plymouth Police Department and the Plymouth County Sheriff's Department. McDonald, Jr, Chief Michael E. Botieri and Capt. Dan Callahan. This Page is NO way a representation of the Plymouth Police or the Plymouth County Sheriff Departments. We just love the horses and hope you will too!

Chopper- a Clydesdale Percheron cross Clancy- a Clydesdale Percheron cross Pelli- Shire Camden- Shire cross Duffy- thoroughbred cross Cowboy- The baby The ancestry of Chopper, Pelli, Clancy, and Camden can be traced back to the mighty battle mounts called Percherons, bred by the French in the Middle Ages; to the 300-year-old Scottish Clydesdales; and to the heavily muscled English Shire draft horses. All of those breeds were known for their strength, agility, and docile dispositions.
