This week, we join Governor Josh Shapiro and communities across Pennsylvania in recognizing Child Welfare Professionals Appreciation Week. 💙

Every day, child welfare professionals work to protect children, strengthen families, and help create safer futures for young people across our communities. Their work often happens behind the scenes, but its impact is felt every day by the children and families they serve.

At Mission Kids, we are grateful to partner with the dedicated professionals at Montgomery County, PA, Office of Children and Youth, whose commitment, expertise, and compassion help ensure children receive the support and protection they deserve.

Thank you to all child welfare professionals for the critical role you play in safeguarding children and supporting families throughout Pennsylvania.

Join us in thanking these professionals for their service and dedication. 💙

More space for healing. More room for hope.

This week, our Partners in Hope Program with Creative Health Services is returning onsite at Mission Kids in Plymouth Meeting!

Our newly expanded Mental Health suite was designed to better support children and families on their healing journeys. The space now includes two dedicated group therapy rooms, an art therapy room, and four therapy offices, creating an environment built specifically for trauma-focused therapy and PSB-CBT services.

For years, our team of eight therapists shared just two offices and transformed MDT observation rooms into group therapy spaces several nights each week. Today, they have dedicated spaces designed for the important work they do every day.

Most importantly, this expansion allows us to serve more children and caregivers onsite, ensuring more families have access to the support they need when they need it most.

🎨 Week 2 of our Student Art Spotlight Series 💙

This week, we are honored to highlight “There is Always Hope” by Elaina Krutz and Brenna Burnett, 6th-grade students from Methacton School District's Skyview Upper Elementary School.

Their artwork reflects the importance of looking on the brighter side of difficult situations and finding optimism even during challenging moments.

The students shared:
“Our piece shows hope because it demonstrates looking on the brighter side of things, even when it feels like all hope is gone, and it shows optimism.”

Artwork like this brings meaningful reminders into our Training Center, where professionals gather to learn, collaborate, and strengthen the work they do to support children and families every day.

Thank you, Elaina and Brenna, for sharing your creativity and message of hope with our community. ✨

Every child deserves to feel seen, heard, and supported. 🩵

Mission Kids staff joined community members at the Montgomery County PRIDE Flag Raising Ceremony at the Montgomery County Courthouse to help kick off Pride Month and celebrate this year's theme, "PRIDE: For All of Us."

The event brought together community leaders, advocates, and partners committed to building communities where people can live safely, authentically, and with dignity.

At Mission Kids, we know that children thrive when they feel valued, respected, and supported. We are grateful to be part of a community working to create spaces where every child and family can feel they belong.

Strong leadership starts with emotional intelligence.

Last week, Mission Kids welcomed leadership staff and supervisors from the Office of Children and Youth (OCY) to our new Training Center for a professional development workshop focused on how emotional intelligence strengthens leadership, communication, supervision, and team relationships.

Hosted by Director of Client Engagement and Initiatives Jane Kim, CEO of Services and Operations Leslie Slingsby, and Community Prevention Educator Abby McCoy, the training, Leading with Emotional Intelligence, explored how emotional intelligence supports effective leadership, supervision, communication, and team relationships.

Participants engaged in interactive activities designed to strengthen self-awareness, self-regulation, empathy, communication, and team management skills. Through discussion, scenario-based learning, breathing exercises, and practical skill-building activities, leaders had the opportunity to practice strategies they can apply in their daily work.

Effective leadership is about more than managing tasks. It is about understanding people, building trust, and creating environments where teams can thrive.

Thank you to OCY leadership staff and supervisors for spending the day learning, engaging, and growing with us. We were honored to host this training in our new Training Center and look forward to future opportunities to support professionals serving children and families throughout our community.

☀️ A beautiful day, amazing community partners, and a shared commitment to children's mental health.

Yesterday, Mission Kids was proud to attend the 20th Annual Children's Mental Health Awareness Day at Elmwood Park Zoo, sponsored by the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services Office of Mental Health/Developmental Disabilities/Early Intervention.

Events like this are always a favorite of ours. Not only do we get to enjoy a day surrounded by incredible animals, but we also have the opportunity to connect with families who are actively seeking ways to support the mental health and well-being of children in their lives.

We also value the chance to build relationships with fellow organizations throughout our community. Meaningful change happens when we work together, share resources, and strengthen the network of support available to children and families.

We are grateful to the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services Office of Mental Health/Developmental Disabilities/Early Intervention for supporting this important event and helping bring valuable mental health resources, education, and awareness to our community.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to say hello, ask questions, and learn more about the services and resources available throughout our community.

Together, we can continue creating a brighter future for children.

🎨 Introducing our Student Art Spotlight Series 💙

As part of our new Mission Kids building, students across the county were invited to submit artwork to be displayed in our Training Center with support from their caregivers and schools. These pieces help create a welcoming space filled with hope, creativity, and the voices of young people in our community.

Each week, we will be highlighting one of the incredible student artists whose work is now featured in our building.

This week’s spotlight is “Hope” by Anna Larkin, an 11-year-old 5th grade student. The artwork shown below is a black bedazzled sign defining and reminding people what hope is.

Anna shared:
“People can look to this artwork and be reminded there can always be hope.”

We are honored to showcase Anna’s meaningful artwork and the powerful reminder it brings to everyone who visits our space.

Thank you to all of the students, caregivers, teachers, and schools who participated and helped make this project possible. We cannot wait to continue sharing these amazing artists and their work with our community. ✨

Today, we had the opportunity to welcome guidance staff from Spring-Ford Area School District to Mission Kids’ Training Center for a day focused on protecting and supporting students.

Staff participated in Darkness to Light: Stewards of Children training led by our Prevention Educators, Veronica and Abby, learning how adults can prevent, recognize, and respond responsibly to child sexual abuse through the nation’s leading evidence-based prevention program.

They also heard from Michelle McDyre, our Director of Prevention Education and Outreach, about:
• Mission Kids and the Child Advocacy Center model
• Resources and support available to schools and families
• Online and digital safety tools
• Opportunities for collaboration and partnership

Our clinical team also shared information about our Promoting Safe Behaviors Program, which supports children and youth with problematic sexual behaviors through evidence-based treatment and family-centered intervention aimed at preventing future harm.

Staff also toured our facility to learn more about the services, spaces, and support Mission Kids provides to children and families throughout the community.

When schools and community partners come together with prevention at the center, we strengthen the safety net around children.

We are grateful to Spring-Ford Area School District for prioritizing student safety and investing in education that helps adults better protect the children in their care.

Interested in bringing your next in-service day or professional development training to Mission Kids? We would love to connect.
