Literacy NJ Atlantic Cape

Literacy NJ Atlantic Cape Literacy NJ offers free tutoring to adults in reading, writing, and the English language.

Literacy New Jersey exists so all adults have the opportunity to read, write, and communicate effectively. We do this by training volunteer tutors to help adult learners and by supporting a network of literacy programs. Literacy New Jersey provides free instruction to adults who need help with reading, writing, math and speaking English. Trained volunteer tutors work with adults one-to-one or in s

mall groups to help them improve their language and literacy skills so they can reach their life goals.

Our annual 3 day fundraiser begins today! Please help us celebrate the work we do for our students. We use your donations to buy books, provide training for our volunteer tutors, and maintain our staff and supplies. No donation is too small!

As the Program Coordinator for Literacy NJ Atlantic Capej, my job is to help adults learn to read by supporting tutors, teaching students, and ensuring the Atlantic Cape program runs smoothly. I could easily brag about my amazing volunteer tutors, the caring administrators, or the many community partners with whom I work. But, I will focus on the most inspirational group of all: the learners we serve.

Across the board, they are hard working, dedicated, compassionate, and committed to making a better life for themselves, a future for their children, and a better America for us all. I have seen them achieve long term goals such as achieving citizenship, finally earning that GED, or landing a great job after years of study. But, it's the small achievements that are the most heartwarming: finally being about to communicate with their doctor, writing a note to their child's teacher, or reading a book to a grandchild in English.

Right now, the future of Literacy NJ is uncertain. The proposed federal budget includes potential cuts to WIOA Title II, our primary source of funding. At Literacy NJ, we know adult education changes lives and drives economic growth in America. Our literacy programs strengthen local economies by helping learners gain the skills needed to secure employment, fill workforce gaps, support their families, and contribute meaningfully to their communities. In truth adult literacy programs help improve America for everyone.
