At our recent City Council meeting, the City of Plantation recognized several organizations, causes and awareness efforts making an impact in our community and beyond.

📜 Kiwanis Club of Plantation’s 60th Anniversary — celebrating six decades of service, volunteerism and commitment to children, families and the Plantation community.

📜 National Diaper Need Awareness Week, September 14–20 — recognizing the importance of diaper access and the work of organizations such as the Greater Fort Lauderdale Diaper Bank in supporting local families.

📜 Sickle Cell Awareness Month — recognizing Shak’s Hope Foundation and its work supporting individuals and families affected by sickle cell disease while continuing the legacy of Shakira Martin.

📜 Hunger Action Month — raising awareness of hunger and food insecurity and recognizing organizations such as Feeding South Florida for providing nutritious food, resources and support throughout our community.

- 5:30 p.m. Wednesday: Final budget public hearing with Council following at City Hall.

- 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Saturday: Family Fit Fest at Central Park, Field #3.
- Sunday: Yom Kippur begins.

Congratulations to Council Member Denise Horland, City of Plantation on her appointment to serve as Chair of the Florida League of Cities Advocacy Committee.

In this leadership role, Councilmember Horland will work alongside municipal leaders from across Florida to help strengthen advocacy efforts and elevate the priorities and needs of cities at the state level. As Chair, she will help guide the committee’s efforts to support Florida’s municipalities and ensure local voices are represented in conversations and decisions that impact our communities.

We’re proud to see Councilmember Horland representing the City of Plantation and taking on this important statewide leadership role!

Congratulations to City of Plantation Councilmember Louis Reinstein on his appointment to the Florida League of Cities 2026–2027 Development, Code Compliance and Redevelopment Policy Committee.

In this role, Councilmember Reinstein will help shape and advocate for the statewide legislative priorities affecting Florida’s cities. As a lifelong resident of the City of Plantation, we look forward to him representing the community’s perspective and applying his professional law expertise to weigh in on topics of community planning, development, redevelopment, housing, short-term rentals, code enforcement, building and fire codes.
