This is a great opportunity for anyone who has ever considered becoming a volunteer firefighter.

Have you ever thought about being a volunteer firefighter but needed more information? Do you have questions about the different roles? Maybe you want to take a little peek behind the scenes at a firehouse? Have you wanted to try on the gear and see how it fits? See how those air packs work? Get to use a fire hose and nozzle? Talk to volunteer firefighters?

Southern Allegheny Valley Emergency Services is doing an Intro to Fire Service night for adults 18 years and older on October 20th from 6-8pm at the Sharpsburg Fire Station.

The event is open to anyone from any community. We just want to get people excited about possibly volunteering for the fire service. We are limiting it to 18 people so you'll get lots of time to try things and ask questions.

Weather permitting, your Penn Hills Volunteer Firefighters will be holding our "Fill The Boot" fundraiser at most major intersections in the municipality from 9:00am to 1:00pm this Saturday, September 12th. Incident 836: At 3:03am, Stations 225, 222, 223, 227 were alerted for a single vehicle accident with rollover and entrapment at the intersection of Frankstown Rd @ Texas St. PHPD, 225TK, 227RQ arrived on scene and confirmed the single vehicle struck a utility pole in Penn Hills, coming to a stop on its side at the intersection of Frankstown @ Eymard St in PGH. Responders dealt with additional hazards of multiple energized wire in the accident scene. PBF & PEMS were on scene. All other PH companies were canceled. ⚠️Frankstown Rd between Eastwood & Woods Rd will be closed for an extended time period while DQL repairs the damaged pole & wires⚠️

Incident 801: On Tuesday evening, shortly after 6pm, Stations 223, 227, 222, 225 were alerted from smoke coming from a house at an unknown address. Fire units made contact with the complainant that was located on Race St and fire units were directed towards the Universal Park area. 227CHF arrived on scene in the 2500-blk of Hill St with flames coming from the roof and the home owner on the roof trying to extinguish the fire. 227TK arrived on scene and began establishing its own water supply. Crews from 227TK & 223EN deployed a ground ladder to assist the homeowner off the roof. 227TK was then assigned to roof operations. 222EN arrived on scene and crews were assigned to check for extension, none was found. Crews quickly extinguished the fire with minimal damage to the structure. PHFM is investigating the cause of the fire.

On Tuesday afternoon, Stations 225 and 221 were alerted to assist Penn Hills Police with a kitten that had become trapped in the frame of a vehicle.

Upon arrival, 225AST found the kitten wedged tightly between the door jamb and fender panel of the vehicle. Crews from Station 225 and PHPD worked carefully together to remove the door and loosen the fender panel, allowing the kitten to be safely freed.

Once rescued, PHPD transported the kitten to a local veterinary office for treatment.

Great teamwork by everyone involved to safely rescue this little one!

Incident 773: Wednesday morning, at 3:45am, Stations 225, 221, 227, 222, 285, 223 were alerted for a house on fire in the 50-blk of Pride Rd. PHPD arrived on scene with a front door on fire and confirmed all occupants were out of the structure. 225TK arrived on scene and crews deployed an attack line to extinguish the fire. 227TK arrived on scene and assisted with extinguishment. Crews later found, and contained some minor extension into the neighboring apartment. 221EN secured a water supply. Crews from 285 & 222 checked for further extension and none was found. The RedCross is assisting one occupant. The fire is deemed suspicious and is being investigated by PHFM & PHPD.
