Alliance for Police Accountability-APA

Alliance for Police Accountability-APA The APA is a grassroots organization dedicated to criminal justice reconstruction.

We are committed to put an end to street violence by eradicating concentrated poverty. We are committed to take action against any form of injustice within the criminal legal system. We are committed to reconstructing the criminal legal system and reversing the war on drugs. We demand that those responsible for criminal justice and law enforcement be held accountable. The APA is an alliance of div

erse organizations and individuals working for justice. We ensure the voices of the people are heard and that the community is included in the making of decisions that affect them. We host community conversations at which community members, law enforcement, and local politicians have candid conversations about the state of their said community focusing on a plan to ensure a safe and healthy quality of life for all. We have a youth leadership institute, entitled "Activism is Love," where we teach the youth how to organize, mobilize and the political process. We teach them the importance of community service and connect them with organizations in which they may have an interest in working with. We are preparing and equipping our young leaders today, with the tools for the future. We host community events at which we educate the community on the political process while ensuring everyone is registered to vote. It is our goal to keep the community politically engaged and informed all year around and not just at election time.

For the first time, the Allegheny County Jail is paying incarcerated individuals for working and attending classes, with the program launching March 25. The initiative aims to support skill-building and reentry, though wages are low and structured under strict rules. Supporters say it’s a step toward fairness and rehabilitation, while critics argue the pay is minimal and overdue. Overall a step in the right direction but more steps need to be taken.

Congress is debating a bill that could make it harder for Americans to vote. Don’t be fooled—despite its name, the SAVE Act is voter suppression in disguise. Urge your senator to vote NO. Our democracy depends on it. https://naacp.org/actions/tell-congress-vote-no-save-act
