I am proud to share my resolution, House Resolution 242, unanimously passed the House this week.

The resolution recognizes the 80th Anniversary of D-Day, which took place on June 6, 1944, and honors the brave American and Allied servicemembers who participated in one of the most significant military operations in history. Their courage, sacrifice, and commitment to freedom helped change the course of World War II and secured liberties that we continue to enjoy today.

As we remember those who stormed the beaches of Normandy and all who served during World War II, we must ensure that future generations understand the sacrifices made in defense of freedom and democracy.

I was honored to introduce this resolution and grateful for the unanimous support it received in both the House Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee and the full House of Representatives.

Please take a moment to listen to my remarks when I presented House Resolution 242 before the House Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee and hear why this resolution is so personal to me.

Great news for career and technical education in Pennsylvania and for students at Parkway West CTC Career and Technology Center (CTC).

A total of $4.3 million in Competitive Equipment Grants has been awarded to 54 schools across the Commonwealth to strengthen Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs and better prepare students for todayโ€™s in-demand careers.

Parkway West CTC is among the recipients of this funding, which can provide up to $85,000 per school. While final award amounts vary by applicant, these grants are designed to help schools update or purchase modern equipment used directly in hands-on training programs.

The goal of the program is to ensure students have access to the same types of tools and technology they will see in the workforce.

Across Pennsylvania, these investments are helping schools expand opportunities for students to earn credentials, gain technical skills and prepare for high-priority careers.

Congratulations to Parkway West CTC.

As we continue our countdown to America250PA anniversary, it is important to take time to reflect on the history that shaped western Pennsylvania and our nation.

One significant event took place in 1764, just after the French and Indian War, when Colonel Henry Bouquet led an expedition from Fort Pitt to the forts near the Muskingum River in what is now Ohio. This mission, often referred to as the March of Bouquetโ€™s troops, was launched to rescue colonists who were being held captive during a time of conflict with Native American tribes.

The route of this historic march followed what is now the general path of Route 65 along the Ohio River corridor. Today, that history is remembered in downtown Pittsburgh at Point State Park, where visitors can reflect on the important role our region played in the early story of America.

Brady Crytzer, historian, author, and professor at Robert Morris University, shares more about this important chapter in our history and helps bring these events to life.

HARRISBURG - Rep. Valerie Gaydos (R-Allegheny) today announced she has co-sponsored House Bill 2541, legislation designed to provide up to $150 million in funding to support the implementation of Pennsylvaniaโ€™s structured literacy law and improve reading instruction across the Commonwealth without raising taxes or impacting the stateโ€™s General Fund budget.

โ€œEvery child deserves the opportunity to become a confident reader because literacy is the foundation for lifelong success,โ€ said Gaydos. โ€œHouse Bill 2541 is a fiscally responsible, forward-thinking solution that gives schools the resources they need to strengthen reading instruction and help students thrive academically.โ€

The Keystone Literacy Investment Tax Credit would authorize the sale of insurance premium tax credits through a competitive bidding process, generating dedicated funding for evidence-based reading instruction grants administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.

Gaydos emphasized supporting students and improving educational outcomes remains a key legislative priority.

She has introduced House Bill 976, the Equity in Education Act, legislation aimed at ensuring fairness and equal opportunities for students and families throughout Pennsylvaniaโ€™s education system.

Gaydos has also introduced House Bill 1398, legislation that would prohibit โ€œno zeroโ€ grading policies by allowing teachers to assign grades that accurately reflect student performance and accountability.

โ€œParents, teachers and students all benefit when we prioritize high standards and strong educational foundations,โ€ said Gaydos. โ€œThis legislation continues our commitment to giving students the tools they need to succeed both in the classroom and beyond.โ€

House Bill 2541 would make funding available beginning in 2029, with tax credits capped at $50 million annually and expiring after 2034.

Our veterans have given so much in service to our country, and one of the best ways we can support them after their service is by helping create opportunities for success.

I am proud to be involved with the The PenFed Foundation for Military Heroes and its mission to help veterans and military spouses build successful businesses and careers. Through mentorship, education and entrepreneurship programs, the foundation gives veterans the tools and support they need to turn ideas into opportunities.

As a business owner and someone who has worked closely with many businesses over the years, I know the impact entrepreneurship can have, not just for an individual or family, but for our economy and community. Our veterans already have the leadership and determination to succeed, and this program helps to open those doors.

I was proud to help bring the PenFed Foundationโ€™s Veterans Entrepreneur Program to the Pittsburgh region and connect veterans with valuable resources, mentors and business opportunities in western Pennsylvania.

Please watch the video to learn more about how we can continue supporting the men and women who have already given so much for our country.

Earlier this month, we celebrated the third annual Aerospace and Aviation Day at the Capitol. It is a great reminder Pennsylvania continues to lead the way in aerospace, aviation, innovation and exploration.

One of the highlights of the day was welcoming astronaut and retired Air Force Col. Mike Fincke to the Capitol. Mike recently completed his fourth trip to space and has spent an incredible 549 days in space, including nine spacewalks during his remarkable career.

Mike spoke with my colleagues and me about the importance of exploration and how space helps us better understand our universe. His passion for discovery and innovation was very inspiring.

It was especially meaningful for me because Mike and I both graduated from Sewickley Academy together (although he did much better in physics class than I!) ๏ฟผand share western Pennsylvania roots. It is great to see someone from our area achieve so much and represent our region in such an outstanding and meaningful way.

Please take a moment to watch the video.

In a previous post, I shared some of the ways state funding has helped support important projects and services in our community. Since then, I have added more to that list because I believe our community deserves continued investment and support.

Every dollar you pay in state taxes should make a difference you can see here at home.

Those tax dollars help repair roads and bridges, support police officers and first responders, strengthen our schools, help small businesses grow, improve parks and community spaces and provide important services for families and seniors.

One of my most important responsibilities as your state representative is helping shape the state budget and making sure your tax dollars are being invested where they matter most. These decisions create opportunities and results for the people who live and work in our community.

I invite you to watch the video and learn more about where your state tax dollars are going and how those investments are helping our community continue to grow and thrive.

The Glenfield Valley Veterans Association proudly hosted a Memorial Day ceremony to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

Thank you to everyone who attended and joined us in paying tribute to our fallen heroes. May we always remember and honor the courage of those who gave everything for our freedom.

Erin Miller, commander of the Glenfield Valley Veterans Association, delivered very passionate remarks.

Don't miss this event!

It coincides with my legislation, House Bill 583, which would restore important dental benefits for Pennsylvanians who rely on Medical Assistance. These benefits were cut in 2011 and include services such as root canals, treatment for gum disease, emergency exams and other procedures essential to maintaining good health.

The legislation passed the House and is now being considered by the Senate Health and Human Services Committee.
