This week, we recognize Correctional Officers Week, and I want to take a moment to say how truly grateful I am for the men and women who serve at the Bell County Detention Center.

The work you do each and every day does not go unnoticed. It takes strength, patience, and a level of dedication that most people never see. You show up, you stand firm, and you carry out a job that is both challenging and incredibly important to our community.

But to me, you are more than just correctional officers—you are my family. I see your commitment, your sacrifices, and the way you support one another like family. I couldn’t be more proud to stand beside you.

Thank you for everything you do.

One thing I see often as a jailer is the very real struggle many inmates face with their mental health. Childhood trauma, abuse, addiction, and mental health conditions are common realities, and the emotional weight of those struggles doesn’t disappear behind jail walls.

Through a partnership with Bekah Brooks and Sozo Counseling we have been able to implement a group counseling model that provides inmates with knowledge, tools, and resources to face these issues.

Our hope is that these conversations and tools don’t only help them while they’re incarcerated, but also equip them for a healthier, more successful future when they return to the community.

Jailer Barb Venable and the Bell County Detention Center staff would like to wish everyone a Happy Easter.

Easter is a time of renewal, hope, and reflection. It serves as a reminder—today and every day—of the importance of kindness, compassion, and respect in all that we do.

Grateful for the kitchen workers and staff. Everyone had a great meal.

Wishing everyone a peaceful and blessed Easter. ✝️🌷

Jailer Venable Congratulates Inmate on Obtaining His GED Jailer Barb Venable would like to congratulate Cameron Daugherty for recently obtaining his GED while housed at the Bell County Detention Center.

Venable stated that Daugherty demonstrated strong commitment and determination throughout the process after enrolling in the course a few months ago. He attended our GED courses offered at the detention center and dedicated several additional hours in his cell completing homework and studying to prepare for the test.

Daugherty stated that upon his release, he plans to enroll in college and pursue a degree in Psychology, with the goal of establishing a better future for himself.

Jailer Venable commended Daugherty, saying that accomplishments such as this highlight the value of educational opportunities within the detention center. She added that his achievement reflects discipline, determination, and a genuine desire for self-improvement, and stands as an encouraging example for others to follow.

Happy Valentine’s Day from the Bell County Detention Center ❤️

Today we made sure the individuals in our care received a little Valentine’s treat — pizza, sweet treats, and drinks.

Our goal is always to maintain a safe, secure facility while also remembering that small acts of kindness matter. I’m proud of our staff and the work they do every single day.
