***Emergency Statement***
Dear DVUSD Community,
I am writing to you today with a profound sense of disappointment, anger, and disgust regarding the actions of a fellow board member at our Governing Board meeting on Tuesday, May 26, 2026.
At the conclusion of the meeting, following a disagreement regarding board procedures and the scheduling of a public meeting, Board Member Kimberly Fisher chose to raise her right arm in a N**i salute and state "heil, heil."
As a public servant, father, grandfather and as a member of this community, I want to make my position unequivocally clear: this behavior is abhorrent, entirely unacceptable, and has absolutely no place in the Deer Valley Unified School District.
The symbols and language of N**i Germany represent a dark history of hatred, genocide, and oppression. To display them in any context is offensive, but to exhibit them during an official public meeting of an educational institution—where we are tasked with setting an example for thousands of students—is an absolute betrayal of the public trust. It demeans the office we hold, disrespects the community we represent, and insults the values of decency and mutual respect that we strive to teach our children every day.
While robust debate and strong disagreements are a natural part of democratic governance, they must never degenerate into antics that promote or trivialize hate. This behavior was not a lapse in judgment; it was a deliberate, disrespectful gesture that fundamentally compromises the dignity of our board.
Our focus as a district must remain on providing a safe, respectful, and high-quality educational environment for our students, staff, and families. I want to reassure our community that this behavior does not reflect the heart of DVUSD. I stand firmly with our families, our educators, and our community members in rejecting this conduct in the strongest possible terms.
Sincerely,
Paul Carver
Community Member and Servant
Deer Valley Unified School District
