Lutheran Social Services Family Resource Centers is a program of Lutheran Social Services of the Southwest in collaboration with faith and community-based organizations to serve the needs of all families. We support families to help make sure ALL children in the community are healthy and ready to learn. We believe parents are their child's first and most important teachers. What We Do
Resource an
d Referral
We provide families access to information and links to the resources they need to be confident and capable in their ability to support their child’s safety, health and overall well-being. Family assessment appointments are held with Family SPOT Program Coordinators and families who are in need of community resources such as:
*Finding a healthcare provider
*Completing a SNAP or ACCCHS application
*Finding child care
*Securing food, clothing and shelter
*Other resources specific to the needs of the family
Play SPOTs
Play SPOTs are offered at each center and in community locations each week to help increase parents understanding of their child’s development. Families with children birth - 5 years old who attend Play SPOTs engage in hands-on kindergarten readiness activities. Each family receives at least one book, the month’s daily at home activities and other great resources. Parent Education
We provide parent education opportunities each with a goal to increase parent’s competence and confidence in parenting. Why Focus On Early Childhood?
90% of a child's brain develops during the first 5 years of life. Studies show that children exposed to high quality early childhood education:
*Have better language, math and social skills
*Have better cognitive and sensory skills and experience less anxiety
*Are less likely to need special education or be held back a grade.
