Juneteenth is about freedom and resilience.

On June 19, 1865, Major General Gordon Granger ordered the final enforcement of the Emancipation Proclamation in Texas declaring the end of slavery in the United States.

As we recognize this significant day, we encourage everyone to take a moment to learn about our nation's history, reflect on the contributions and achievements of African Americans, and celebrate the enduring spirit of freedom that Juneteenth represents.

Jesus Sandoval*, Jorge Jurado Martinez*, and Kevin Tristan*have been indicted for a home invasion in Chandler. Additionally, Sandoval and Jurado Martinez were indicted for an armed robbery that happened beforehand.

On June 6, a rideshare driver was picking up passengers near Elliot Road and Arizona Avenue. They got into an argument, and the rideshare driver was hit with a gun and robbed.

Shortly after, Chandler Police received a call about a nearby home invasion. An elderly man was reportedly pistol-whipped, and his daughter was shot. Jurado Martinez and Tristan are charged as adults.

Sandoval and Jurado Martinez were indicted on the following charges:
• two counts of Armed Robbery, a Class Two Dangerous Felony
• two counts of Aggravated Robbery, a Class Three Dangerous Felony
• three counts of Aggravated Assault, a Class Three Dangerous Felony
• one count of Burglary in the First Degree, a Class Two Dangerous Felony

Tristan is charged with:
• one count of Burglary in the First Degree, a Class Two Dangerous Felony
• one count of Aggravated Robbery, a Class Three Dangerous Felony
• two counts of Aggravated Assault, a Class Three Dangerous Felony

Three other men — Pete Canez*, Robert Rosas*, and Anthony Rosas* — are accused of helping two of the home invasion suspects try to flee the country through the Southern Border. Each is charged with Hindering Prosecution in the First Degree, a Class Five Felony.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

Our office gets a little brighter every time students walk through the door! ✨

This summer, MCAO opened its doors to young people from across Maricopa County to see how criminal cases are prosecuted and what a career in law really looks like. They showed up ready to learn, ask questions, and share their perspective.

Hearing from the next generation about the issues that impact them most is essential to the work we do at MCAO.

Daniel Crouse* and Stephanie Bandin* have been indicted for a series of thefts at home improvement stores across Maricopa County.

Between March and May of this year, Daniel Crouse stole power tools from eight Lowe’s stores, 17 Home Depot stores, and a Shopper Supply store. Crouse was also identified on surveillance video stealing a luxury purse from a Dillard’s department store in Chandler. The thefts resulted in more than $30,000 in losses to the local businesses.

When Chandler Police located the defendant and attempted to arrest him, the defendant’s girlfriend, Stephanie Bandin, used her vehicle to block police from reaching Crouse. Both were arrested. After further investigation, Bandin was also identified in surveillance video stealing power tools from a local Home Depot.

Crouse was indicted on one count of Theft, a Class Two Felony, and 27 counts of Organized Retail Theft, a Class Four Felony. Bandin was indicted on one count of Organized Retail Theft, a Class Four Felony, and one count of Hindering Prosecution in the First Degree, a Class Five Felony.

Todd Maddox has been sentenced to 4.5 years in prison and ordered to pay more than $23,000 in restitution after pleading guilty to one count of Criminal Damage, a Class Four Felony, for vandalizing a sculpture at the Phoenix Art Museum. Maddox has an extensive criminal history spanning nearly two decades, including eight prior felony convictions.

In March 2026, Phoenix Police officers responded to the Phoenix Art Museum after receiving reports that a man had damaged a dinosaur sculpture on display outside the museum. Museum staff provided officers with photographs and video showing the suspect breaking pieces off a marble wall and throwing them at the exhibit.

Officers canvassed the area and learned that the suspect had been seen walking through the nearby Heard Museum property. With assistance from museum security, officers located and detained the suspect, who was later identified as Todd Maddox.

After being advised of his rights, Maddox admitted he had been drinking alcohol and using methamphetamine and that he had been damaging property throughout the morning. When shown surveillance video from the Phoenix Art Museum, Maddox acknowledged that he was the person depicted damaging the sculpture.

The estimated cost to repair the damaged sculpture, known as the "Jurassic Age" figure, is $23,308.

“Public art enriches our community and belongs to everyone,” said Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell. “The damage caused in this case resulted in costly repairs and deprived visitors of the opportunity to enjoy this exhibit as intended. Given Mr. Maddox's extensive felony history spanning multiple states, this prison sentence holds a repeat offender accountable while helping protect our community. We appreciate the quick work of Phoenix Police Department officers and the cooperation of museum staff in bringing this case to a resolution.”
