Maricopa County Justice Courts Maricopa County has 26 justice courts, each led by a Justice of the Peace. This page is a production of the Justice Court Office of Communications.

Maricopa County has 26 justice courts that are each presided over by a Justice of the Peace, who is elected for a four year term. These are 'limited jurisdiction' courts- handling civil lawsuits where the amount in dispute is $10,000 or less, landlord and tenant controversies, small claims cases and the full range of civil and criminal traffic offenses, including DUIs. This agency social media site serves as a limited public forum and all content published is subject to monitoring and Arizona Public Records Law. User-generated posts will be rejected or removed (if possible) when the content:

• is off-subject or out of context
• contains obscenity or material that appeals to the prurient interest
• contains personal identifying information or sensitive personal information
• contains offensive terms that target protected classes
• is threatening, harassing or discriminatory
• incites or promotes violence or illegal activities
• contains information that reasonably could compromise individual or public safety
• advertises or promotes a commercial product or service, or any entity or individual
• promotes or endorses political campaigns or candidates

Repeat violators of acceptable use may be banned from the page. Public Records Law
Social media sites are subject to applicable public records laws. Any content maintained in a social media format related to MCJC business, including communication posted by MCJC and communication received from citizens, is a public record. The Department maintaining the site is responsible for responding completely and accurately to any public records request for social media content.

Eviction filings are on the rise again. It's a trend every Spring and Summer where landlords file more cases than the previous month.
Thankfully, it will slow again in November.
We saw 6,494 cases filed in April. And while that doesn't break the top 20 months of all time, it is still hurtful for everyone involved.

The Downtown Justice Center lost power at about 2:30pm on Tuesday, May 5th.

APS does not expect to have power restored until after 6:30pm.

At this time, cases in the Arcadia-Biltmore, El Centro, Encanto, South Mountain, and West McDowell justice courts will be rescheduled.

The Judicial Branch of Arizona in Maricopa County is warning residents of a nationwide traffic scam - asking residents to pay court fines and fees for tolls, speeding tickets, and parking violations prior to a 9 a.m. hearing tomorrow.

Scammers are sending text messages and emails representing themselves as the Superior Court of Maricopa County Traffic Division and threatening recipients to scan a QR Code to settle an unpaid balance or face license revocation and additional fines. Do not download the message, as it may contain malicious software, and do not click on or scan the QR code.

The scam creates a sense of false urgency by demanding immediate payment in ways that are difficult to trace like cash, gift cards or electronic payment.

The Maricopa County Superior Court wants to assure the public that these are not legitimate texts and emails. There is no “Traffic Division” of the Superior Court of Maricopa County. Additionally, the Court would never make such threats and demand immediate payment.

How to Identify Scams:
- Courts do not ask for immediate payment over the phone or via email.
- Only scammers will insist you can only pay with gift cards, a payment app, cryptocurrency or a wire transfer service.
- Courts do not ask for sensitive personal information over the phone, like your Social Security number.

UPDATE:
We have been given the all clear and everyone is being allowed back in. Thank you for your patience and to the Chandler fire department for being so quick.

ALERT: the Ocotillo Regional Court Center building is evacuated at this time for a burning smell.
Cases at the Kyrene, San Tan, San Marcos, and University Lakes Justice Courts are on hold as a hazmat team sweeps the building.
We will update this post when all is clear.

Yup- it's a scam. It might say you have unpaid traffic tickets, toll fees, missed jury duty or even have a warrant for your arrest.

"She is truly a superstar!"
Those were among the words that earned Lucia a recent CRAFT Award at the Highland Justice Court.
It's our version of employee of the month- where co-workers get to write in about an outstanding teammate in their midst.
But Lucia didn't just accept the award on her own behalf. "This is more of a team effort," she said. "This really should go to everybody. I come to work and I love what I do."
She even comes in on her day off without being asked to help the staff.
That’s dedication. That’s appreciation. And that’s why she got the nomination.
