At the heart of America’s story is the sea. From the Continental Navy to today’s global force, the Navy’s story is America’s story.

As we celebrate our nation's 250th anniversary, we're launching our "13 Colonies" series to highlight the contributions of the states that started it all.

Our journey continues in North Carolina. From the mighty battleship USS North Carolina (BB 55) to the birthplace of aviation above the sands near Kitty Hawk, the contributions of North Carolina forever altered the trajectory of naval history.

TEAM PHILLY = FLEET READINESS
NSWCPD Marine Engineering Technician Brian Dorner (left) and contracted Mechanical Technician Kevin Johnson (right) install Gas Turbine Change 100 (Digital Fuel Control upgrade) on a standby engine for forward deployment. Our Gas Turbines Engines Life Cycle Support Branch is responsible for ensuring that the fleet’s spare assets are current and upgraded for changeouts, which allows for minimal down time in the fleet for repairs during surge deployments. WELL DONE!

In recognition of National Robotics Week, today we spotlight robotics engineer Max Weissman from our Advanced Data Acquisition Prototyping Technology Virtual Environments (ADAPT.VE) Lab. During his time as a member of Team Philly, Max has led numerous efforts in autonomous systems and machine learning aimed at finding rapid solutions to critical naval challenges, including a project using computer vision to gather and analyze vibration data from machinery systems across the fleet, improving diagnostics and enabling more proactive maintenance. He also partnered with Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division Lakehurst to launch the Shipboard Robotics Community of Practice, bringing together personnel from government, industry, and academia to address the shared challenges of deploying robotic systems in shipboard environments. BRAVO ZULU Max, and thanks for all you do!

We continue our nation's 250th anniversary celebration with the "13 Colonies" series that was launched to highlight the contributions of the states that started it all.

The next step on this journey takes us to Rhode Island.

In recognition of National Science Appreciation Day, meet Theresa Vaites, a key member of NSWCPD’s technical workforce and the technical program manager for the $29 million Magnetic and Acoustic Generation Next Unmanned Superconducting Sweep (MAGNUSS) Future Naval Capability program. She synchronizes technology development across the Office of Naval Research, NSWCPD technical experts, and prime industry partners, bridging the gap between science & technology development and program office acquisition. Her leadership is helping ensure a vital new warfighting capability successfully transitions to the fleet and strengthens Navy readiness. BRAVO ZULU Theresa, and thanks for all you do!
