NewCourtland

NewCourtland Building Communities and connections through creative housing solutions with social services.

NewCourtland is a forward-thinking non-profit organization that seeks to serve and honor low-income seniors in Philadelphia. With roots stretching back to the Civil War, our organization has consistently examined Philadelphians’ most pressing needs and has fearlessly positioned itself on the front lines of serving those most vulnerable among us. Today, through a partnership of caring and services

with our staff, we provide seniors with home-and community-based services, affordable senior housing, and skilled nursing care, which are designed to promote health and foster independence.

Thank you to the brave men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice. Let’s use today to count our blessings and remember our fallen service members.

What a wonderful way to celebrate at NewCourtland Germantown Home! 🎡🎶🍿

Our residents enjoyed a fun-filled carnival day full of laughter, music, games, and community spirit. From exciting carnival games and a traveling casino experience to fresh made-to-order funnel cakes, the day brought so much joy and nostalgia to everyone involved.

A huge thank you to Recreation Coordinator Craig Garris and TR Assistant Marquita Smith for bringing this incredible event to life, and to DJ Mike Hurt for keeping the energy high!

We’re also so grateful to:
✨ NewCourtland’s Pastoral Care Team, led by Rev. Jennell Maddox
✨ The 14th District PDAC team for their support and engagement with residents
✨ Mrs. Marquisa Green for the beautiful balloon décor and donated photo booth that helped create lasting memories

This special day was a beautiful reminder of what happens when community comes together to bring joy to our residents. ❤️

The Philadelphia Senior Center Avenue of the Arts Branch Advisory Council recently hosted its Annual High Tea Party Fundraiser in celebration of Mother’s Day. 🌸☕

Guests gathered for an elegant event filled with tea sandwiches, desserts, smooth jazz by V. Shayne Frederick, heartfelt moments, and plenty of style as Allegheny Senior Center Council and family members arrived dressed to impress in stunning hats and spring attire. A special Mother’s Day poem recited by Advisory Council Member Renay Cook added a meaningful touch to the celebration.

Thanks to the generosity of everyone who attended and supported the event, the Council raised $2,000 to benefit charitable causes. It was such a memorable day! 💐

Your voice matters. Sometimes the most important part of community development isn’t presenting a plan, it’s listening first. Through NewCourtland’s Community Homeownership initiative, the .listening_ team spent time with residents, neighbors, and local partners to better understand what people need to remain rooted, stable, and connected in the communities they call home.

These conversations are shaping how we think about flexible housing, multigenerational living, aging in place, and pathways to long-term ownership and equity. And the best ideas often start by simply listening.

Did you know NewCourtland offers spiritual support services led by our very own Rev. Jennell Maddox? Our spiritual support services are here to nurture the whole person...mind, body, and spirit. Our chaplains provide compassionate support that reflects the diverse spiritual, emotional, and cultural needs of our residents and tenants.

From T.E.A. (Teaching, Edification, and Application) and pastoral counseling to Project Hope and one-on-one support sessions, there are many ways to connect. Residents can also take part in inspirational book clubs, writing sessions, biblical and religious studies, as well as spiritual retreats and trips.

We also honor life’s meaningful moments through memorials and religious services, creating space for reflection, healing, and community.

Because at NewCourtland, care goes beyond the physical—it supports the spirit, too. To learn more, please visit: https://www.newcourtland.org/programs/spiritual-support-program/
