Today, my legislation regarding T&U visa certifications reported favorably out of Committee!

This legislation established basic guidelines for T&U visa certification requests, including requiring timely response to application, written explanation of denial, and protections against applicant’s immigrant status being shared without their consent.

Today’s victory wouldn’t be possible without all the testimony provided today. Thank you for taking time to stand up on behalf of immigrants seeking safety from human trafficking and violent crime. Your partnership is valued and our communities thank you.

A special day at Wissinoming Park as community members, family, friends, and local leaders came together to honor the life and legacy of Margaret “Marge” Tartaglione.

Her years of service and dedication to Philadelphia helped pave the way for so many, and it was great to see the community come together to celebrate her contributions and lasting impact.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this dedication such a memorable event.

Wrapping up AANHPI Month with a celebration!

Yesterday I had the great privilege of joining the Pennsylvania Indian American Nurses Organization (PIANO) for their 20th Anniversary celebration. As Philadelphia’s first South Asian Councilmember and the mother of a medical professional, this was a special day.

PIANO was established in 2006 by Indian American nurses meeting seeking a place to be in community and to share professional development expertise.

Under the umbrella of the National Association of Indian Nurses of America, PIANO is an example of how nursing is a calling and a work of humanity.

Congratulations on 20 years and I here’s to another 20!

This week was filled with meaningful conversations, community celebrations, and opportunities to recognize the contributions of our Asian American and Pacific Islander neighbors throughout AAPI Heritage Month.

It was an honor to join residents, advocates, and organizations in recognizing the rich diversity that helps make Philadelphia stronger.

Swipe through for a look back at this week’s highlights!

We’ve been closing out AANHPI Heritage Month with a bang this year!

I had an incredible time at the Philadelphia Asian American Film Foundation’s (PAAFF) Inaugural Benefit dinner this week. Nani Shin is creating a powerful space for our diaspora to grow and thrive together and it was inspiring to be around so many creative members of our community.

And it was such a pleasure to meet Asif Ali and Saagar Shaikh of Hulu’s Deli Boys. The show is a landmark moment for South Asians and I wish you infinite success.

Now that AANHPI Month is closing, I hope we continue to celebrate our victories. We need to replicate this energy year round!

Amir Davenport, 14, has been reported missing from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, after he was last seen on the afternoon of May 21, 2026.

Loved ones say Amir — affectionately known as “Mir Mir” — has not been seen or heard from since that day, and concern for his safety continues growing as time passes.

Right now, his family is relying heavily on the public to help keep his face and story circulating throughout Philadelphia and beyond.

Please don't scroll past this case. Somewhere tonight, someone may remember seeing Amir walking through a neighborhood, riding in a vehicle, standing outside a store, hanging out with friends, or traveling with someone else without realizing he had been reported missing.

Sometimes the smallest detail becomes the breakthrough investigators desperately need.

One sighting.
One memory.
One phone call.

That can change everything.

A 14-year-old child should not simply vanish without answers. Amir deserves to be found safe, and his loved ones deserve to know where he is tonight.

📞 If you have any information regarding Amir Davenport’s whereabouts, please contact 911 immediately or the Philadelphia Police Department.

This week I celebrated a historic moment for Philadelphia - the return of pro tennis to our city after over 20 years without!

Philly has a long history with tennis - from being the birthplace of Ora Mae Washington to hosting the first US Women’s Lawn Tennis Championship in 1887 - and it’s about time the sport returns to its home.

Big thanks to the USTA for taking us another step forward in Philadelphia’s tennis journey.

The Philadelphia Tennis Classic will be hosted at UPenn’s Hamlin Tennis Center from August 23-29. Make sure to check it out!

Today I attended the Black Brain Campaign’s Inaugural Mental Health Summit!

The event brought together clinicians, mental health professionals, students, and community leaders for a day of reflection, connection, and professional development.

I believe in cultural competency and this applies just as much to mental health. I am grateful to the Black Brain Campaign for your leadership in this space.

Thank you for having me!

Proud to have co-sponsored a resolution honoring the 25th anniversary of the Sustainable Business Network of Greater Philadelphia — founded by Judy Wicks at White Dog Café — recognizing 25 years of advancing local businesses, environmental stewardship, and a more equitable economy centered on people, prosperity, and the planet.

I also introduced a privileged resolution recognizing and celebrating the 2026 Philippine Independence Week Celebration in Philadelphia, taking place June 6–June 20, co-introduced with Councilmember Mark Squilla, honoring the strength, culture, and contributions of Philadelphia’s Filipino community.
