Yes, we dip apples in honey. But the sweetness isn't the point, it's the prayer underneath it.

When we eat something sweet on Rosh Hashanah, we're not just marking a tradition. We're making a physical wish: may this year actually be sweet to you. May it be sweet to the people you love. May it be sweet to the parts of the world still waiting for repair.

A small ritual. A big hope. This is Earthbound Judaism in its simplest form, holiness you can taste.

What sweetness are you hoping for this year?

Learning Hebrew doesn't require perfection it requires a place where you're safe to begin.

Every letter, every word, and every prayer is part of a journey not a test. Whether you're reading Hebrew for the first time or returning to it after many years, growth happens through curiosity, consistency, and the courage to keep showing up.

With patient guidance, compassionate teachers, and a community that welcomes every question and every mistake, learning becomes more than mastering a language. It becomes a way to deepen your connection to Jewish tradition, engage more fully in prayer, and discover the richness of a heritage that has been passed down through generations.

Wherever you are on your journey, there's a place for you to learn, grow, and belong.

What if love is where the inner work begins?

In her new release, Love in War, Elana Brody explores love, G-d, and what it means to keep seeking the beloved even in a world that can feel fractured.

As we move through Elul and toward Selichot, we’re invited into that same practice: seeing the beloved in the world, seeing the beloved within ourselves, and remembering that love can be the foundation for the reflection, forgiveness, and inner work this season asks of us.

We sat down with Elana to unpack the themes behind Love in War and what they can teach us during this sacred season.

What happens when learning becomes lived experience?

After completing Aleph’s Cantorial and Rabbinical Programs, Rabbi Hazzan Miryam went on to find her own spiritual community, creating a space rooted in joy, healing, and connection.

Her Siddur, Shaarei Simcha (Gates of Joy), reflects that same vision. Inspired by the teachings of Reb Zalman Schachter-Shalomi and the spirit of Jewish Renewal, it invites prayer to become a living practice accessible, inclusive, and deeply meaningful.

Through beautiful language, artwork, and community-centered liturgy, Shaarei Simcha reminds us that joy isn’t a distraction from life’s challenges; it’s a sacred path through them.

Aleph is honored to celebrate Rabbi Miryam's ongoing contribution to Jewish Renewal and the communities she continues to inspire. ✨

Because prayer isn't only about the words we recite it's about the joy, presence, and connection we bring to them.

We’re just over a week away from Rosh Hashanah and the beginning of 5787.

The month of Elul invites us into teshuvah, often translated as repentance, but at its heart, it means return.

Return to yourself.
Return to what makes you feel alive.
Return to the earth.
Return to what matters.

As we prepare for the Jewish New Year, these Elul journal prompts are an invitation to slow down, reflect, and listen inward. You don’t need to have all the answers before 5787 begins. Just give yourself the space to ask the questions.

Save these prompts for a quiet moment this week, and share one with someone you’d like to reflect with.

A meaningful spiritual life doesn’t have to begin with something big.

Sometimes, it begins with one small practice a moment of gratitude before reaching for your phone, a blessing before a meal, a quiet minute of reflection, a verse of Torah, or a simple act of kindness.

Jewish practice can meet us in the ordinary moments of our day, helping us slow down, notice what is sacred, and reconnect with what matters.

You don’t have to do all seven.
Choose one. Begin there. Let it grow.

Which practice will you try this week?

"We teach each other to be aware of the divine." — Rabbi Laura Duhan Kaplan

Spiritual growth isn't meant to happen in isolation. We awaken one another through conversation, learning, compassion, and the sacred act of simply showing up for each other.

Every relationship has the potential to become a doorway to the Divine if we're willing to listen, learn, and be fully present.

How has someone helped you become more aware of the sacred in your own life?

Meet Marla, an Aleph rabbinical student preparing for ordination this January. ✨

For Marla, the journey toward becoming a rabbi has been deep, rich, and life-changing. From the joy of learning with Reb Marcia, to the spirit found in prayer and study, to the extraordinary wisdom within the kahal, community is at the heart of the experience.

She describes the journey as moving through the Four Worlds, transforming not only how she learns, but how she lives.

This is what it looks like to learn, grow, and become within Jewish Renewal.

Every therapist eventually encounters questions that extend beyond diagnosis or treatment.

Questions about purpose.
Grief.
Faith.
Identity.
The soul.

The Hashpa’ah Training Program helps cultivate the sacred practice of spiritual accompaniment, offering another way to hold those conversations with wisdom, compassion, and deep presence.
