Bobana Apiary - Local Mid-Michigan Honey There is much to learn about HoneyBees but even more to learn from them. Grateful for the lessons 🐝💛.

My sweet mama was a Beekeeper in Romania and I never thought I would be one, yet life has a way of bringing one back to one's roots.

Ready to die, yet God brought the bees to save her 🐝🐝🐝

Ellie Lobel was a young woman full of life when an insect bite during a walk in the woods changed everything. At first, it seemed harmless—just a sting on the leg, mild irritation, nothing to worry about. But in the months that followed, Ellie began to suffer from mysterious and debilitating symptoms: joint pain, exhaustion, and neurological issues. For over a year, doctors failed to diagnose her correctly, offering conflicting explanations. Eventually, she was diagnosed with late-stage Lyme disease, a bacterial infection spread by ticks that had already ravaged her nervous system. From age 27 to 42, Ellie lived a half-life, bedridden, unable to move, and waiting for the end.

After 15 years of pain and hopelessness, Ellie made the heartbreaking decision to stop all treatments and let go. Her doctor gave her just 90 days to live. In what she thought would be one of her final moments, she asked to sit outside in the sun one last time. There, something extraordinary happened—she was swarmed by Africanized bees. Stung dozens of times and barely clinging to life, Ellie was rushed to the hospital. Her heart stopped but was revived. She asked the doctors not to intervene further, ready to die. But then, the unthinkable happened: she woke up pain-free.

In the days that followed, Ellie began to recover—walking, thinking clearly, and living again. Doctors were baffled, but the explanation lay in the bee venom, which appeared to destroy the Lyme bacteria or jumpstart her immune system in a way science is still striving to understand. Since that miraculous turnaround in 1997, Ellie has become an advocate for apitherapy (bee venom therapy), sharing her story to inspire others. While her case remains rare and potentially dangerous to replicate without medical supervision, Ellie’s journey is a powerful reminder that hope can emerge from the most unexpected places—even the sting of a bee.

And the Sticky Liquid Gold is flowing 😊🍯 with my lovely helpers Christine Ciucanu-Dagner and Greg Dagner. Greg's and my first reaction when we first tasted it was; "apple pie" 🥰. With sweet notes of apple blossom and cinnamon, needless to say I am grateful to Our Most Amazing Creator God, Who surprises us daily with His Goodness!“…I will sing praises to my God with my dying breath." Psalm 146:2 💛

Can't wait to have some of Christine's baked goods with this honey. https://www.facebook.com/share/1FykTBpkoU/?mibextid=wwXIfr

Where does the bees wax come from 🤔
Soon after a newly hatched worker bee emerges as an adult, it begins producing wax. Honey bee workers have pairs of special wax-secreting glands on the undersides of their abdomens. From these glands, they secrete liquified wax, which quickly hardens into thin scales when exposed to the air.
During its peak wax production phase, a healthy worker bee can produce about eight scales of wax in a 12 hour period. To put that into perspective, the colony requires about 1,000 wax scales, to make a single gram of beeswax 😮
After the soft wax hardens, the worker bee uses hairs on her hind legs to scrape the wax from her abdomen. She passes the wax forward to her middle legs, and then to her mandibles. She chews the wax until it is pliable, and carefully shapes it into the hexagonal cells that make up the colony's honeycomb.
During a substantial honeyflow, bees can produce enough wax to draw out entire frames, which will be needed to store their precious nectar 🍯

SO, every time we go to some sort of outdoor festival (this time happened to be "The Michigan Honey Festival"), and there are smoked turkey legs available - you better believe I will eat one no matter what my hunger barometer says😋. And what's interesting, when I eat meat (because it requires a LOT of chewing), I am often reminded of something the apostle Paul said in rebuke/correction that we find in Hebrews 5:12-6:2 - he said:

"You have been believers so long now that you ought to be teaching others. Instead, you need someone to teach you again the basic things about God’s word. You are like babies who need milk and cannot eat solid food. For someone who lives on milk is still an infant and doesn’t know how to do what is right. 14 Solid food is for those who are mature, who through training have the skill to recognize the difference between right and wrong.
So let us stop going over the basic teachings about Christ again and again. Let us go on instead and become mature in our understanding. Surely we don’t need to start again with the fundamental importance of repenting from evil deeds[b] and placing our faith in God. You don’t need further instruction about baptisms, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment."

For some reason I find his rebuke very encouraging in a few different ways. But the main thing the Spirit of God does in me through His Word spoken by Paul, is reminding me of the love of Christ the apostle had flowing through him for these people to speak such Truth! I LOVE when someone loves me enough to obey the Spirit. And I pray God gives me the increasing desire to obey His Spirit's prompting regardless of my "feelings" or reasoning. 🙏

Got a new 🍯🐝roadside sign yesterday 💛. I would've like to include Proverbs 16:24 on it because I love it and needed often as a reminder in my life when I get impatient or frustrated with a situation or person ~ yet I know that just knowing the Truth does not change a person's heart. What changes the heart ~ or better said Who alone can exchange the heart is Jesus Christ through His Spirit's work in us. So, I wish that eating my honey can produce sweet and kind words 🤓, but how much better it is to know the One that gives us a new heart ( Ezekiel 36:26) and He becomes the Source of our words. And during His transformation processes in me, He does NOT condemn me for still stumbling once in a while (Romans 8:1)🥹, because my sins and sin-nature are completely covered by His sacrifice. I love YOU LORD JESUS (with the love YOU poured in my heart), and thank you for choosing me, loving me, making me Yours. Your Word is like honey to my soul💞. You are my hiding-place where I find deep rest and I am always refreshed!

Yesterday was BEE-utiful in many ways! I SO enjoyed our deep/meaningful conversations, Christopher Ciucanu ~ beekeeping and delighting in the Buzzing-beauty of God's amazing creativity and order🐝💛. One lesson that stood out yesterday was recognizing how 3 of the hives were much stronger than the 4th and taking some surplus (bees) from the three and helping the weak. Lending a helping hand to the neighbor by going to live among them. That's what God does through missionaries🥰.

Because of the fall of humanity through the rebellious act of not listening to God's command in the Garden of Eden (the first home for Adam and Eve)- human instinct is self-preservation, NOT sacrifice. Unlike the instinct of the honeybee, humans natural instinct is to "save" their skin, not sacrifice for the benefit of others. BUT, because God restored through His Son what was lost in Eden, and Jesus was willing to sacrifice His own life, HE frees us from the unlike God-instinct of self-preservation as we receive His Spirit in us. Thus many Christ-like people went to their deaths as martyrs, reflecting God's heart toward us. Jesus calls us to follow Him and that means to lay down our lives (preferences, ambitions) for the ones He places in our life for His purposes. And what's amazing, honeybees have this built in by God instinct in them - reflecting their Creator🐝.💛 Elena
