As Labor Day comes to a close, a reminder of the good work that is achieved when government partners with labor and other stakeholders to get things done.

Happy Labor Day! Thank you to all those who have fought for our labor movement and a strong workforce.

In particular, I thank those who we have partnered with, including those creating the new apprenticeship center in White Marsh - as well as all our county employees. We appreciate you!

📚 Happy National Read a Book Day! 📖

As someone who proudly led the grassroots campaign to build our Perry Hall Branch Library, I know firsthand that our public libraries are so much more than just buildings full of books. They are the true heartbeat of our communities.

From Kingsville to the waterfront communities of Middle River and Bowleys Quarters, our families deserve world-class library access. That is why my office is actively moving forward with our dedicated task force to pave the way for a brand-new, 25,000-square-foot public library branch to serve the Middle River area!

Today, let’s thank our hardworking librarians who make our neighborhoods a better place every single day

Oakhurst Park along the Seven Courts Drive corridor is one of numerous new playgrounds in our district. We worked with the Baltimore County Department of Recreation and Parks to replace the equipment, as well as the Baltimore County Police and our state legislators to make sure kids can play safely.

Great to be joined by Delegate Ryan Nawrocki at the playground.

September is World Alzheimer’s Month, and as your Councilman, I want to take a moment to shine a light on the millions of individuals and families living with dementia, and those especially here in our 5th District community.

This year’s global theme emphasizes how crucial early diagnosis and community support are for connecting families with the right care.

We have some incredible leaders in our district stepping up to make a difference. I want to give a huge shout-out to Town Square Perry Hall, which has launched an amazing community campaign to build a 750-foot paper chain made of 2,026 purple "promise links" to raise vital funds and awareness for the Alzheimer's Association!

Here is how you can get involved right here in the 5th District this month:

💜 Write a Promise Link: Stop by Town Square Perry Hall (9708 Belair Road) to dedicate a purple strip of paper with your own personal commitment or message of hope.

💜 Dine & Dish for Seniors (Sept 10): The
Perry Hall Branch Library is hosting a special social gathering and light meal for adults 60+. Sponsored by the Department of Aging, it’s a fantastic 5th District event focused on building the community connections vital for cognitive health.

💜 Fall Health & Wellness Fair (Sept 26): Join the team at Town Square Perry Hall from 10 AM to 2 PM for their Fall Health Fair. They will feature memory care resources, local wellness vendors, and a final push to cross the finish line for their purple promise goal!

Ongoing 5th District Resources:Become a "Dementia Friend": The Baltimore County Department of Aging hosts free, virtual awareness sessions to teach neighbors how to better understand and support those living with dementia right in our neighborhoods. No family should have to walk this path alone.

Our county government is working hard to make our neighborhoods safer and more inclusive for families navigating memory loss through the Dementia Friendly Baltimore County initiative.

Some of the vital programs they offer include: Project Lifesaver: A life-saving partnership between the Baltimore County Police Department and Project Lifesaver International that equips first responders with tracking technology to quickly and safely find individuals who wander due to dementia.

Free Caregiver Support: The Department of Aging offers evidence-based "Dealing with Dementia" training courses and free monthly virtual awareness sessions to give families the tools they need.

Dementia Book Libraries: In partnership with our Baltimore County Public Library branches, the county funds specialized book collections and resources specifically tailored for caregivers and those living with memory loss.

Extra Local Support through Gilchrist:
We are also incredibly fortunate to have Gilchrist operating right here in our community. They have been selected for Medicare's groundbreaking GUIDE Program, which provides local dementia patients and their families with dedicated care navigators, 24/7 support lines, and vital in-home respite care to give caregivers a much-needed break.

Let’s show the strength of the 5th District by wrapping our community in support this September.

Yesterday, I gave blood at the American Red Cross drive sponsored by the Baltimore chapter of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community.

I would like to thank this community for its consistent support of the Red Cross and other community initiatives. During the September 11th attacks, which we will commemorate next week, thousands of Marylanders gave blood; thank you to the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community for sponsoring this event in recognition of that milestone.

The center was packed! Please click on the link to learn how you can make a difference.

Honor Through Service

Join the Baltimore County Volunteer Center as we mark the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks by remembering the lives lost, honoring the courage and sacrifice of first responders, and coming together for a meaningful day of community service.

Volunteers will assist NeighborSpace, a local land conservation organization, with weeding and mulching a walking trail in East Towson's Adelaide Bentley Park.
