One of our favorite meetings of the year!
Last week, we hosted the annual Peoria North Awards Day, where we got to celebrate outstanding members and community members with recognition for their Service Above Self.

Help us in congratulating these remarkable humans we get to call fellow Rotarians and friends.

• The Peoria-North Rookie of the Year Award - JILLIAN GUEDE
Recognizing a first year Rotarian who has put forth exceptional effort to become involved in Peoria-North while being so new to the club. Presented by Rookie Chair Kim Turk

• The President's Paul Harris Fellow Award - DAVE POEHLS
The financial commitment and selection of the recipient is the sole responsibility of the Past Presidents of the club. Criteria include attendance, participation in club activities and a dedication to the club’s growth and development. Presented by Immediate Past President Ashley Schreck

• The Peoria-North Paul Harris Fellow Award - KIM TURK
Criteria for the award include meeting attendance, participation, growth & development, involvement with community activities, and exemplifying the ideals of Service Above Self and The Four Way Test.

• The Peoria-North Fred Sweat Fellowship & Service Award - HEATHER LONGFELLOW
Named after former member Fred Sweat and his dedication to the service of the club and fellowship with members. This award recognizes those who step up and offer their time and talent beyond their membership, but who is also a friendly face, adding to the culture of the club.

• The Community Paul Harris Fellow Award - PAUL KLUBER
This award is given to a member of the community who exemplifies the qualities and ideals of Rotary but is not a Rotarian themselves. A $1,000 donation is made in their name to the Rotary International Foundation, giving them a Paul Harris Fellow recognition. Nominated and presented by Robin Barnes.
In 2025, the board of directors voted to add a donation be made in the recipient's honor. Paul chose to have his $1,000 donation be made to Make-A-Wish Illinois, as this foundation holds a strong place in his heart.

Thank you to this year’s awards committee chair, Mark Witlock, and his committee for their time and consideration in selecting and presenting this year’s Peoria-North award ceremony.

After years of planning and working on a global grant with partners of the Rotary Club of Kivu Lake-Rwanda, Peoria-North members touched down in Rwanda to visit the Nyakabizi water project site this past week.

We also joined IDA Rwanda & Purdue University Engineers Without Borders Purdue at the site to discuss progress and plans for phases 2 & 3 of the project.

There was a stop at Purdue EWB's previous project to meet with the local water committee and give an idea of how ours could operate.

Then we worked with fellow Rotarians to deliver all the school supplies donated by our club to children across Rwanda.

Stay tuned as we share more about each part of our visit.

What a great day for Rotary!
The Literacy Committee hosted our annual end of year party with our reading buddies and pen pals from The Elise Ford Allen Academy K-8 📚💡📖

We gave out summer reading kits and snacks and spent some time congratulating them on another successful year.

Thanks to our members, volunteers, and Central Illinois Rotaract who joined us for a fun-filled afternoon.

Last week, we gave out our final scholarship of the year - the Ralph H. Kress Memorial Scholarship.

In memory of devoted club member Ralph H. Kress, this $2,500 scholarship supports a Peoria County student pursuing a Mechanical Engineering degree. This initiative is generously funded by the Kress Corporation, managed by the Rotary Club of Peoria North Foundation, and honors Ralph’s legacy of commitment from his induction on July 17, 1969, until his passing on June 28, 1995.

Congratulations to this year's recipient, Evan Patterson from Elmwood High School. What doesn't Evan do? Our committee was impressed not only with his academic accomplishments, but also with his involvement in school sports, electives, and his community. We have no doubt Evan will be successful in his future endeavors.

This is a highly competitive award requiring a very detailed application. Thank you to all the remarkable students who applied. Best of luck in your journey.
