Big Brothers Big Sisters of Knox County

For more than 100 years, Big Brothers Big Sisters has operated under the belief that inherent in every child is the ability to succeed and thrive in life. As the nation’s largest donor- and volunteer-supported mentoring network, Big Brothers Big Sisters makes meaningful, monitored matches between adult volunteers (“Bigs”) and children (“Littles”), ages 6 through 18, in communities across the country. We develop positive relationships that have a direct and lasting effect on the lives of young people.

Our agency in Knox County has two programs, the community-based and site-based ‘Lunch Buddy’ program. In the community-based program, Bigs spend time with their Littles 2-4X a month doing activities in the community such as going to the park, the library or grabbing a bite to eat. In the site-based ‘Lunch Buddy’ program, Bigs spend time with their Littles once a week in the school setting. Here, they will visit their Little during lunch to eat, work on homework or play games. Child safety is our number one priority! Because of this, our mentors are interviewed and background checked. All matches are professionally supported throughout the course of their match.
