TECO UPDATE: Since the City Administration continues to NOT post anything on social media about the TECO project (Despite my ongoing requests to do so) this is how residents continue to get screwed over with poor workmanship and a lack of communication. I have decided to post one of the responses I received from one of our neighbors in hopes the City Administration will do its part to communicate. My town hall that was held on Feb 28th was designed to provide this information to you. Unfortunately the Administration decided to lock the doors on democracy.
Below is an email from our neighbor. Name will be kept offline for privacy purposes.
I'm sure you are all aware of an ongoing project by Teco Peoples Gas relocating gas lines from the rear yards to the front easements and installing new gas meters. I believe this goes from Palm Ave west to Flamingo Rd? I'm assuming this requires a permit, and that the City is somehow overseeing/inspecting the work? We were told that Teco plumbers will be installing the new resident gas meters. I do hope the City Plumbing Inspectors will be involved. There are also numerous areas where the City streets and sidewalks have been cut up and trenched and temporary patches are in place. It wasn't that long ago when the City repaved our area, and now we have many unsightly raised asphalt patches. I do hope the City will require Teco to restore these areas as well.
Today, it was more personal, since the Teco crew damaged our irrigation line which washed away quite a bit of the sidewalk area and underneath our driveway. I've attached a photo of their repair. I'm sure you would all agree that this is not acceptable. I've sent an email to the Teco Construction Supervisor with the hopes that our driveway will be restored to its original condition, not patched, as well as the sidewalk and sod replaced once the project is finished. I've also requested that they place a cone or ribbon off the area for safety reasons since the sidewalk and surrounding area is very uneven. I'm fearful for our residents that walk in the evenings.
Our biggest disappointment is the lack of communication and information provided to the residents on the timeline for this project. There is also no advance warning when they show up so vehicles could be moved, gates unlocked and sprinklers shut off. I know this burden should be on Teco, but I'm hoping the City is taking a closer look at the workmanship of these new gas lines and meters.
