Outreach Officer Mike Crabb (Region 1) had a fantastic time visiting Safety Day in Marshall County last week! He shared our new book, "Pip and the Mississippi Wildfire", and talked with local students about the importance of wildfire prevention. Some of the kids even stepped up to help read the story to their fellow classmates!

We love seeing Mississippi's youth get excited about protecting our forests.

Mississippi forestry took center stage in Washington, D.C., last week! 🌲🏛️

MFC State Forester Russell Bozeman teamed up with Casey Anderson, Executive Director of the Mississippi Forestry Association, to advocate for our state's landowners.

During their productive meeting with Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith and other elected officials, they focused on two critical issues: securing vital disaster assistance for landowners and strengthening and expanding Mississippi’s timber markets.

🌲 Preliminary Tornado Damage Assessment Report 🌪️

Following the severe storm activity on May 6, 2026, MFC conducted aerial surveys to assess forest damage.

Initial assessments from May 7th reveal that more than 5,014 acres of privately owned forestland have been impacted across Adams, Franklin, Lawrence, Lincoln, and Wilkinson counties. The potential economic impact to these private timberlands is estimated at approximately $6,421,225.

Damage assessments for state and federally owned public lands are still underway, with preliminary reports indicating significant damage to several timber stands.
