🚨Hemisphere/15 King Street update:
Hello, this is Mayor, Ted Bettencourt. I wanted to provide an update on activity at the old J.B. Thomas Hospital site on King Street. The owner, Hemisphere Development, has received a permit from the state to conduct asbestos abatement work within the building. They will be mobilizing on the site as early as today, and we expect the work to last about 5 to 6 weeks. The work will be monitored by inspectors from our city health and building departments. We have been told that hemisphere will file for a demolition permit for the building after the abatement work has been completed, but we have not received that request as of yet. I will send out additional updates as information comes in. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to my office at 978-538-5700. Thank you.

According to Community Development, the King Street project is not going to change anything now. They said they will withdraw their letter if necessary.
I’m waiting for that letter and will share when received.

🚨The Peabody Police Department is aware of a planned event advertising a “Northshore Mall takeover” scheduled for today, Friday February 20, 2026, at 3:00pm.

Our primary concern is public safety including visitors of the mall, employees, business owners, and the residents of Peabody. Events promoted in this manner can attract a large and unpredictable crowd.

We are working closely with our local and state law enforcement partners to plan an appropriate response to prevent and minimize potential risks should such an event take place.

We will continue to monitor information related to events of this nature and respond accordingly to protect our community. 🚨
