Today we celebrate more than a flag.

We celebrate the enduring ideals it represents: freedom, opportunity, unity, and the belief that each generation has a responsibility to leave our nation stronger than it found it.

The American flag doesn’t represent a perfect nation. It represents a nation that never stops working to become a more perfect union.

Over nearly 250 years, the United States has expanded freedom, overcome challenges, created opportunity, and inspired hope for millions around the world. Our history includes both great achievements and difficult lessons, but what has always defined America is our willingness to keep moving forward.

We are not defined by our shortcomings. We are defined by our determination to confront them, learn from them, and continue striving for something better.

Today, we honor the flag that unites us, the freedoms it represents, and the countless Americans who have sacrificed to preserve them.

Happy Flag Day.

God Bless America.

PASCO FIRST. ALWAYS.

On Monday, during Council Miscellaneous Discussion, I plan to bring forward three items for discussion with my fellow Councilmembers.

First, I will be asking the Council to revisit an ordinance originally considered in 2022 that would formally prohibit a local income tax within the City of Pasco. While the Council previously adopted a resolution opposing a local income tax, the ordinance itself was never adopted. I believe it is time to revisit that discussion and consider placing that prohibition into our municipal code.

Second, I will be requesting that staff prepare a resolution expressing the City of Pasco’s opposition to a Washington State income tax. While local governments do not control state tax policy, I believe it is important for communities to clearly communicate where they stand on issues that could significantly impact working families, retirees, and small businesses.

Third, I intend to ask the Council to consider bringing forward an ordinance repealing the recently adopted Transportation Benefit District sales tax increase. I continue to believe that residents should have had the opportunity to vote directly on this tax increase before it was adopted. If the Council wishes to pursue additional taxes, I believe the public deserves a seat at the table through the ballot box.

These discussions may or may not receive support from a majority of the Council, but I believe they are important conversations to have on behalf of the residents I represent.

It’s Your City. Expect More.

SUN WILLOWS WATER PRESSURE UPDATE

Over the last several days, I have received questions and concerns regarding water pressure in the Sun Willows area and wanted to share what I have learned from City staff.

According to staff, there are no known historical records of widespread pressure issues in the neighborhood, and recent system pressure reports showed adequate pressure levels within the area. However, after further review, staff noted that Sun Willows is located at the end of a water line, which can make it more susceptible to pressure fluctuations during periods of high demand, particularly when multiple properties are irrigating at the same time.

To better understand what residents may be experiencing, staff will be installing pressure monitoring equipment to collect real-world data and evaluate whether fluctuations are occurring. Staff is also reviewing ongoing construction activity in the CBC and Argent Road area to determine whether it could be contributing to any pressure-related concerns.

At this time, no specific cause has been identified, and I don’t want to speculate beyond the information we have. What I can tell you is that staff is continuing to investigate the matter, gather data, and look for answers.

As always, I appreciate those who brought this issue forward. If there is something going on, we need to understand it and address it. I will continue to follow up and share updates as additional information becomes available.
