Extreme heat doesn’t affect every neighborhood equally. FACS Executive Director Chris Topoleski is featured on Fairfax County’s Climate Matters blog, sharing how our Urban Heat Island Mapping Project is helping identify temperature differences across Northern Virginia and better understand how our built environment contributes to neighborhood-level heat.

With more than 80 community volunteers helping collect localized temperature data this summer, we’re turning community science into information that can support healthier, more resilient neighborhoods.
