The 2025 Annual Homelessness Assessment Report (AHAR) was just released, and the numbers tell a critical story for our community Nationally, over 230,000 people in families with children experienced homelessness on a single night this year Even more heartbreaking, 18% of all homeless persons across the country are children under the age of 18
Here in Washington, the challenge remains urgent: there are 6,883 people in families with children currently experiencing homelessness in our state While national family homelessness saw a slight decline, the total number of homeless persons in Washington actually increased over the last year
How Family Promise of Puget Sound is making a difference:
Emergency Shelter: We provide safe, temporary housing specifically for families with children who have nowhere else to turn
Eviction Prevention: We address the root causes of housing loss by offering financial assistance to keep families in their homes before they enter the system
Trauma-Informed Childcare: Recognizing that children are the most vulnerable, our programs foster resilience in a predictable, nurturing environment
Stabilization & Rapid Re-housing: We don't just manage the crisis; we connect families with the resources needed for long-term, sustainable independence
The report notes that families often stay in emergency shelters because they lack income-based housing options FPOPS uses advanced technology and personalized case management to bridge this gap, helping families gain the stability they need to build a better future
