🌱4 steps to finding sustainable clothing brands 🌱

✨ Research – a little research can go a long way when shopping for sustainable clothing. Take a look at the materials they’re using for their garments, how they approach creating new designs, and if they do any work to offset their environmental impacts.

✨ Look for transparency – a company that’s truly sustainable will want you to know it and they should have the receipts to prove it. Look for data or any information about what the company is doing to offset their environmental footprint.

✨ Look for brands that don’t overproduce – fast fashion and trends come and go. Sustainable brands will offer more limited styles but the garments they sell are higher quality and made to last.

✨ Use resources – databases like Good For You will vet brands for sustainability and ethical practices and gives them an ‘eco rating’.

The term “greenwashing” describes brands that try to appear environmentally friendly without actually being sustainable.⁠

Companies may give a false impression that they are “green” and eco-conscious or mislead consumers into thinking they’re sustainable. However, these companies that are greenwashing don’t have sustainable business practices.⁠

It’s my dad’s today. He won’t see this post bc he’s not on IG…but after talking to him on the phone I just feel really compelled to share how incredibly lucky i feel to have him as not just a dad but as a mentor, a supporter, and a friend. He’s always kept it real. Never sugar-coating ANYthing. Which I didn’t understand as a child but now, as a grown Mexican-American woman, I appreciate it more than ever. He was preparing me to live in a world that can, at times, be very cruel and unfair. He is by no means a perfect man but he taught me all about GRIT, hard work, and commitment to loved ones. He led by example and gave all he could with the tools he had. Thank you, Apá —I love you 💗
