e to Columbus. Like many Ohioans, Senator Hoagland has become frustrated with the tendency of politicians to make their next election their top priority. For Senator Hoagland, serving his country started early. He volunteered for the Navy just two weeks after graduating from Buckeye North High School in Jefferson County and quickly signed up for Navy SEAL BUDS training, following in the special forces footsteps of his father who had served as an Army Green Beret. He served as a Navy SEAL for nearly 21 years, participating in combat zones including the International War on Terrorism and the War on Drugs in South America. Navy SEAL training prepared him for a life of sacrifice by focusing on the notion that success comes when people focus on helping others before they focus on helping themselves. After his last combat deployment working for another government agency in 2011, Senator Hoagland retired and returned to eastern Ohio. Seeking new opportunities to serve and help to protect his community, he founded the small business Special Tactics and Rescue Training (S.T.A.R.T.). At S.T.A.R.T., he shares his expertise on emergency situation preparation and emergency response procedures with local school districts, businesses, and law enforcement agencies. As a state senator, he looks forward to working on issues important to the people of his district, including jobs and economic development, education, veterans affairs and fighting the opiate epidemic in our state. Senator Hoagland is married to his high school sweetheart, Darla, and they live in Adena. They have two grown sons, Josh and Luke, and a granddaughter, Ella Rose Hoagland.

I’ve been getting a lot of questions about the recent WWVA Radio report involving a Wintersville traffic stop.

According to the initial report, an individual believed to be in the country illegally was stopped by police for speeding, didn’t have a drivers license, had a federal warrant for skipping a deportation hearing, and called a man who he said was his “boss”, manager from 7 Ranges Entertainment to come pick him up from the scene.

WWVA has issued a retraction stating that the individual was incorrectly identified as an employee of 7 Ranges.

We are not in a position to verify that claim. However, police and county records show the individual's home address, which was provided to police by the manager of 7 Ranges Entertainment, is a rental home owned by the Ferguson family.

Rather than rely on secondhand accounts, I encourage voters to review the facts directly—listen to the WWVA story, watch the police body camera footage, and read the citation and officer’s written statement. All of those materials are available at the link below so you can examine the evidence and draw your own conclusions.
