A message from our friends at the Alabama Cannabis Coalition:

CALL TO ACTION
When you joined the Alabama Cannabis Coalition, we asked you if you were willing to reach out to your legislators. We are ready for you to assist us. Please share this post and encourage other Alabamians to follow the directions and send an email. Please share this post in other Cannabis advocacy groups.
State Senator Bobby Singleton has sponsored and introduced SB160. This legislation supports the decriminalization of Cannabis in the State of Alabama. It will initially be sent to the Alabama Senate Judiciary Committee. SB160 has to pass out of the Judiciary Committee for it to have a chance to move forward. Senator Singleton introduced this same legislation in the 2021 Legislative Session, and it never made it out of Committee, so your participation is essential.
If you would like to read the legislation as written, click on the following link:

WHAT WE NEED FROM OUR MEMBERS:
Send a simple email and in the "Subject Line", type SB160. Send the email to the following Senate Judiciary Committee members stating that you are a Citizen of the State of Alabama and that you support SB160 decriminalizing Cannabis in the State of Alabama. You can copy and paste the following email addresses in one email and send it to all members simultaneously including the sponsor of SB160. If you are tech savvy when sending emails, simply download the image in this post and upload it and attach it to your email.
The more Citizens that contact these Judiciary members the better. A word of caution, please be respectful, there is no reason to go into great detail about why you support decriminalization, some legislators prefer that you sign your name and give your address, so they know which Legislative District you are in, that is strictly your prerogative. Short and sweet is all that your email needs to be, for example:
“I am emailing you today because I am a Citizen of the State of Alabama and I support Senator Bobby Singleton’s proposed legislation SB160 to decriminalize Cannabis in Alabama.”

The Biden administration is reportedly planning to ban menthol ci******es.

ACLU along with dozens of others including the Drug Policy Alliance said while such a ban "no doubt well-intentioned," it would have "serious racial justice implications."

"Such a ban will trigger criminal penalties, which will disproportionately impact people of color, as well as prioritize criminalization over public health and harm reduction,"

"A number of police encounters resulting in tragic deaths are linked to police enforcement of to***co laws: Eric Garner, killed by a police chokehold, was illegally selling ‘loosie’ ci******es"

"Our experience with alcohol, opioid, and cannabis prohibition teaches us that that is a policy disaster waiting to happen, with Black and other communities of color bearing the brunt,"

I support no law restricting body autonomy. You own your body. The government has no role or authority in telling you what you can or can't put in it.

I also stand against over criminalization, over policing, and against laws that create crimes without victims.

On the afternoon of June 26, 2020, Karen Garner was walking through a field to her home two blocks away, picking wildflowers, bothering no one, when Officer Hopp pulled up behind her, and called out to her to stop and talk to him.

Garner has dementia and sensory aphasia, an inability to understand spoken and written speech.

Hopp asked Garner why she didn’t stop after he activated his lights and siren, at which point Garner gave him a blank expression, said something unintelligible, and started to move away.

This interaction lasted 8 seconds.

He grabbed her and violently assaulted her, twisting her arms behind her back, throwing her to the ground and handcuffing her.

Over 38 times the only thing she cried out was the only thing she knew to say, "I'm going home."

Despite small stature, the fact that she was elderly and posed no threat, Hopp pushed her left arm “painfully upward,” dislocating her shoulder, a fracturing her humerus bone, and a spraining her wrist. He repeatedly threw her on the ground, and eventually hog-tied her on the side of the road.

Her attorney, Sarah Schielke put it simply, “Loveland Police officers have enrobed themselves with a completely unaccountable authoritarian superiority. They demand total obedience and submission from everyone – including the disabled elderly – and if you don’t immediately capitulate, they will make you pay for it.”

Loveland’s justification for all this? Ms. Garner was suspected of having exited a Walmart without paying for $13.88 of items. Forgetting to pay for items at a store is one of the most common and well-known symptoms witnessed in elderly persons suffering from dementia. Nearly 20 percent of all adults of Ms. Garner’s age or more are suffering from some form of dementia.

This is unacceptable. We must end qualified immunity.

This is someone's grandmother. All I can think about right now if how angry I would be if this was my Granny.
