Oxford Police Department Update: Cheers Liquor & To***co Shooting

Today, the Oxford Police Department apprehended Burtram Donta Carter Jr an 18 year old resident of Anniston in connection with an outstanding warrant for first degree assault related to the shooting incident that took place at Cheers Liquor and To***co on May 8th. With this arrest, we have successfully apprehended all offenders involved in this case.

We sincerely thank the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force, the 7th Judicial Major Crimes Unit, and the Bureau of Alcohol, To***co, Fi****ms and Explosives (ATF) for their essential support throughout the investigation and subsequent arrest.

The successful resolution of this case and the apprehension of suspects can be attributed to the diligence and dedication of the officers in our Criminal Investigation Division, Special Investigations Unit, Emergency Services Unit, and EMACC. I would like to personally recognize and commend them for their unwavering commitment and hard work on this significant case.

If you come to our city to commit crimes, especially acts of violence, you will be identified, arrested, and held accountable.

Kudos to Investigator Pitts and Officer Yates for a strong performance, they led for much of the event but were ultimately disqualified for a rules violation. I’ll refrain from discussing specifics but it had to do with not being able to keep all the pizza down.

Congratulations to the Anniston Fire Department on winning this year’s contest, and thank you to all the participating law enforcement and fire departments for their dedication and sportsmanship.

Come out and join us.
