Michigan parents are feeling the strain more than many families across the country, according to a new survey showing higher rates of debt, housing instability, unpredictable work schedules, and emotional stress.

Many report borrowing money to cover basic needs, taking on extra work hours out of necessity, and struggling with the toll that financial and scheduling uncertainty takes on family life.

The findings also point to broader challenges, including delayed healthcare, childcare barriers, and concerns about the impact of online sports betting on household finances.

Together, the data paints a clear picture: Michigan parents are overwhelmed by mounting pressures that demand real, family-focused solutions.

A new survey, the second in an ongoing series tracking nationwide parent wellbeing, provides a window into pressures felt by Michigan parents.

Today, Tuesday, June 2, I was honored to celebrate Donna Coleman and her incredible 23 years of service to Genesis House Clubhouse and Community Mental Health.

Donna’s resilience, leadership, and dedication continue to inspire and uplift others every day. The special tribute I presented recognized her outstanding contributions.

Please join in congratulating Donna on this remarkable milestone!

On this Memorial Day, we pause to honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our nation. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten, and their courage will always be remembered. May we never forget.

Memorial Day has a way of making you stop and think about the names behind the flags and the families who lost a loved one. For my family, one of those names is my uncle, William D. BeGole, a B-24 bomber co-pilot whose plane crashed in Italy on November 1, 1944 after flying 41 missions during World War II.

Today we remember him, and every American who never came home. Some gave their future so the rest of us could have ours. Let us never forget the cost of the freedom we enjoy today.
