THANK YOU to everyone who showed up and voted! Although I was unopposed in the primary, the amount of support and encouragement I received from the community still means so much to me!
Let’s do it again November 3rd, Wapello County!

For everyone that has one of my signs, you can either pull them from your yards and store them until closer to the November election or I can pick them up and store them! Let me know and I will stop by this weekend!
For the ones that have a big metal sign, we will definitely be stopping by and removing those! ♥️

Today, June 1st, is the last day of early voting at the courthouse!
Tomorrow, June 2nd is Primary Election Day!
Polls open at 7am and close at 8pm.
In order to vote in the Primary Election, you need to be registered with a specific party.

In a primary election, voters select the candidate they want to move forward to the general election in November. The winners of each party’s primary become that party’s official candidates.

Get out and Vote Wapello County! There’s some great candidates running!

Simply leave a bag of non-perishable food next to your mailbox, and your mail carrier will handle the rest 🥫

Wapello County, my name is Valerie McElroy and I am running for Wapello County Treasurer.

A little about myself: Ottumwa has been my home for 26 years. My husband and I have 3 very active kids. You can catch us cheering on a lot of local sporting events from Bulldogs to the Warriors.
In my free time, I enjoy lake time, getting lost in a good book, and love traveling and exploring new places.

Here in Wapello County, the Treasurer is responsible for 2 offices, the Property Tax office (located inside the courthouse) and the Motor Vehicle office (located at 102 E Main).
I have worked in the Tax office for 8 and a half years. I started out as an office clerk and worked my way up to a Deputy Treasurer January 2019. I have gained knowledge in every aspect of the job— from collecting and disbursing property taxes to the yearly tax sale and managing county bank accounts.

Customer service is my top priority. I’m ready to bring a new approach for stronger offices, both in the Tax and the Motor Vehicle Office. This is why I am running for Wapello County Treasurer.

I’m excited to connect with you all and share more about who I am and what I stand for.
