2026 IASRO School Resource Officer of the Year

The Iowa Association of School Resource Officers is proud to recognize Logan Nord from the Oskaloosa Police Department as the 2026 IASRO School Resource Officer of the Year.

Officer Nord exemplifies what it means to be an outstanding SRO through his commitment to student relationships, innovative programming, school safety leadership, and community service. From creating programs like Lunch Bunch, Lunches with Logan, and Cops for Kind Kids, to serving as a DARE instructor, mentoring students, and helping expand the SRO program in Oskaloosa, his impact reaches far beyond the walls of the school.

Please join us in congratulating Officer Nord on this well-deserved honor. Thank you for your leadership, service, and unwavering commitment to the students and community of Oskaloosa.

The calendar may say summer break, but we have one very important question:

When do you officially become a sixth-grade student?

Is it the moment you walk out of Oskaloosa Elementary School for the last time? The first time someone says “middle school schedule”? Or when your backpack suddenly needs room for a locker combination?

A few weeks ago, our fifth graders celebrated the end of their time at OES and looked ahead to their next big step at Oskaloosa Middle School. We are proud of the leaders they have become, and we cannot wait to see what they do next.

Enjoy the summer, future sixth graders. OMS is waiting for you!

A student in the World of Work program at Oskaloosa Elementary School, Gentrie Sarver, has gained valuable experience working with kindergarten students and teachers throughout the school day. Gentrie plans to attend Grand View University to study Elementary Education after graduation.

One of the most interesting activities Gentrie saw the students do involved using shaving cream on plates to practice shapes and letters. It was a fun and creative activity that both the students and teachers enjoyed. Through this experience, Gentrie learned that kindergarteners do much more than most people realize. The students complete many different reading activities, lessons, and hands-on projects, and they perform very well for their age.

Working in the classroom has also helped Gentrie develop patience and communication skills while interacting with both the children and the teachers. The opportunity has been rewarding and has provided real-world experience in a positive learning environment while helping prepare for a future career in education.

Oskaloosa Schools entered Shelter today as part of our Standard Response Protocol after a thunderstorm warning with high winds developed into a tornado warning today.

We had students on campus for strength and conditioning, and we are grateful for the quick, calm response from our students, coaches, and staff. Everyone moved to a safe location and remained protected throughout the warning.

And in true Osky fashion, they didn’t let a little time in the locker room go to waste. While staying safe, the workouts continued.

Thank you to our coaches and staff for keeping students safe and focused.
