A message from Beech Grove Police Chief Michael Maurice:

"It is with a heavy heart that I inform you that today we lost one of our very own, Officer Brian Elliott. Officer Elliott, along with two other Beech Grove Police Department officers, was dispatched at 6:08 p.m. to the 100 block of Diplomat Court for a disturbance. After they arrived, Officer Elliott and another officer were shot. Both officers were rushed to Eskenazi Hospital, but despite the best lifesaving efforts by medical personnel, Officer Elliott succumbed to his injuries. The other officer, who we are not naming at this time, is currently in stable condition and is expected to survive.

My heart goes out to Brian’s wife, Erin, his parents, and all of his family, friends, and loved ones. At this time, I am asking that we lean on one another to get through this.

We are grateful to the team at Eskenazi Hospital, and our law enforcement and community partners for their extraordinary response and support."

As we walked into the Statehouse today for the first day of Session, 2026, there was an unusual hush. Initially, I was concerned for the turnout for the 22nd Annual PSP Indiana Opening Prayer Service. But then I witnessed the quietest crowd I had ever seen in the Statehouse, with their heads all bowed in reverent prayer to God.

I am grateful to have bills that I authored this Legislative Session already on the Governor's desk! Today, the Senate passed HB 1348 that ensures nonaccredited/nonpublic high school administrators have the legal right to execute transcripts for and grant High School diplomas to their students, and that state and local governments and agencies cannot arbitrarily reject them. This is great news for small private and home school students!

I got this back in April and I thought how funny it was claiming to be a gun lobby in Indiana when I had never even heard of them. Turns out this guy and his brothers are just fraudsters out to take advantage of conservative voters and donors. Be careful out there folks. Don't buy into anything just because it claims to be politically "conservative." I appreciate this write up by a friend of mine with the Firearm Industry Trade Association exposing them.
