Each spring, Orange City bursts into color, and it all begins with tulip bulbs planted this fall! This October, volunteers will once again plant 40,000 tulip bulbs throughout the city, ensuring beautiful blooms come May. Leading the way are Nora Mulder and John Buntsma, who will gather helping hands in Windmill Park on October 23 at 1:00 pm and October 24 at 8:30 am. Rain dates are October 30 & 31.

We’d love for you to be part of this Orange City tradition! Grab your gloves, shovels and hand trowels, bring a friend, and join us (no garden knowledge or experience required)!

For more info call John Buntsma at 712-574-1619.

The Orange City Council met on September 8 to address development, infrastructure, public safety, and administrative matters.
Following a public hearing, Council considered a resolution authorizing the disposal of City-owned lots in the Industrie Centrum West Second Addition at the former airport property.
Council also considered the second reading of proposed Ordinance No. 872, which regulates the use of golf carts on City streets.
An additional ordinance was considered establishing surcharge rates and penalties for Significant Industrial Users as part of the City's Pretreatment Program. The ordinance provides a framework for recovering additional wastewater treatment costs and addressing violations when industrial wastewater discharge exceeds agreed-upon pollutant limits.
Council received an update on plans for a potential new location for the Orange City Police Department. City staff presented information regarding property acquisition and next steps for plans and specifications related to building renovations.
Additional actions included the renewal of alcohol licenses for Kwik Star and Downtown Grille, and approval of a special events permit for the Smoke-Off sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce on Saturday, September 12.
The meeting concluded with administrative reports.

The Dutch American Heritage Museum is honored to announce that J. Bruce Mouw, one of the nation’s foremost authorities on organized crime, will be the featured speaker for the next Nights at the Museum lecture series event. The event will take place at NW Learning Commons on September 29 from 6:30pm – 7:30pm

Mouw’s presentation, titled “John Gotti and the Mafia in New York”, will explore his decades of experience investigating organized crime and corruption at some of the highest levels of American law enforcement.

During his distinguished 27 year career with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, he served as a Supervisory Special Agent in the New York Division, where he directed investigations into the notorious Gambino crime family. His leadership played a central role in major racketeering cases involving figures such as John Gotti, Paul Castellano, Salvatore “Sammy the Bull” Gravano, the Westies, and the landmark Commission Case that reshaped federal prosecution of organized crime.
