The Opelousas Police Department is aware of rumors circulating on social media claiming that a โ€œgang warโ€ is expected to occur in Opelousas.

At this time, law enforcement has not received any credible information indicating any organized or coordinated retaliatory violence targeting the City of Opelousas or the public at large.

While some individuals connected to Tuesdayโ€™s incident do have ties to Opelousas, investigators believe the incident stemmed from a specific conflict between individuals rather than any broader threat to the community.

The individuals involved have connections across multiple Acadiana area jurisdictions, and investigators have found no evidence indicating Opelousas is being specifically targeted or that there is any organized conflict centered within the city itself. At this time, investigators believe Tuesdayโ€™s incident occurred in Opelousas due to the circumstances surrounding the individuals involved that day.

Investigators have also found no confirmed link connecting the recent shootings that have occurred within the city. Each incident continues to be investigated individually based on the evidence and information developed in each case.

Law enforcement remains diligently focused on Tuesdayโ€™s incident and all individuals connected to that investigation. While isolated acts of violence between individuals are always possible in any criminal matter, OPD has not received credible intelligence indicating any imminent retaliatory activity related to gangs within Opelousas.

Unfortunately, unverified social media posts and forwarded messages have caused unnecessary panic and confusion throughout the community.

OPD remains proactive in monitoring all credible public safety concerns and will continue working closely with our law enforcement partners to ensure the safety of our citizens. Detectives and investigators are working diligently to identify and bring those responsible for violent crimes to justice.

We encourage the public to rely on official information released directly by law enforcement agencies rather than rumors, screenshots, or speculation circulating online.
If you have credible information regarding criminal activity, please contact the Opelousas Police Department at (337) 948-2500.

๐Ÿšจ๐ŸŒ€ HURRICANE SEASON IS COMING โ€” BE PREPARED! ๐ŸŒ€๐Ÿšจ

The Opelousas Police Department encourages all residents to begin preparing now before severe weather threatens our area. Hurricane season can bring heavy rain, flooding, high winds, tornadoes, and extended power outages โ€” even inland communities like Opelousas can be impacted.

โœ… Build an emergency preparedness kit
โœ… Stock up on food, water, medications, and batteries
โœ… Secure outdoor items around your home
โœ… Have an evacuation and communication plan
