Appreciate WBNG 12 News for taking the time to share my story and we hope this helps someone. I was just a kid from the Lower East Side on 9/11. Years later, cancer became part of that story too.

I grew up in the Alfred E. Smith Projects on the Lower East Side. Lower Manhattan was home.

Years later, I was diagnosed with a 9/11-related cancer.

I survived. Too many didn’t.

Twenty-five years later, nearly 98,000 people in the World Trade Center Health Program are certified with a 9/11-related health condition. And the number of people who have died from those illnesses has passed the number we lost that day.

Today I remember the people we lost, the people harmed that day and in the years after, the responders and everyday New Yorkers who ran toward danger, and the families still carrying all of it.

When I say never forget, I mean it.

Tell the truth. Take care of the people who are still here. Keep fighting for them.

That’s what New Yorkers do.

Never forget.

That’s how long the sales tax formula in Otsego County has been around and hasn’t been updated since 1991.

So we asked for a review.

Not a predetermined answer. Just a real look at whether this archaic formula still makes sense for our communities today.

I think that’s fair and our residents deserve an answer.
