Internships can help students figure out what they want to do next, and sometimes what they don’t.

Aksarben Foundation interns Shohina Sultonova and Litzy Morales recently sat down with Travis Wohlenhaus, Finance and Operations Intern at the Aksarben Foundation, to talk about his experience, his interest in impact finance, and what he has learned through hands-on work.

Travis shared great advice for both students and employers: students should look for opportunities that help them explore their interests, and employers should give interns meaningful work that allows them to grow.

Closing out National Apprenticeship Week with a focus on what comes next. Nebraska continues to lose college-educated talent each year, while employers are actively looking for skilled workers.

At the same time:
• Strong job demand remains
• Employers are looking for local talent
• Students are looking for clear career pathwaysThat’s the gap we’re working to close.

Apprenticeships, internships, and career-connected learning create real reasons for people to stay and build careers here.

If someone comes to mind who is doing this well:👉 https://aksarben.org/neta/

A great conversation on youth apprenticeship and talent development.

On April 24, Justin Pfenning from Dramco Tool Co. shared how their team built one of Nebraska’s early youth apprenticeship programs and what has made it successful.

The session offered a practical look at what it takes to launch and sustain a program, with real examples, lessons learned, and ideas attendees can take back to their own organizations.

From building strong partnerships to creating meaningful, hands-on experiences for students, the discussion reinforced the impact youth apprenticeship can have on both talent pipelines and long-term workforce growth.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and contributed to the conversation.
