Omaha, sorry about the hiatus.

Quick update on waste pickup. Spoiler alert: One day late! (Thanks, Mother Nature!)

Revised collection schedule due to the Thanksgiving Holiday and subsequent landfill closing due to weather.

The Friday service area, which was previously rescheduled, will now be collected on Monday.

This change impacts all garbage, recycling, and yardwaste collections for the week of November 30th. All routes will be delayed by one day, as follows:

Monday's collection moves to Tuesday
Tuesday's collection moves to Wednesday
Wednesday's collection moves to Thursday
Thursday's collection moves to Friday
Friday's collection moves to Saturday (Friday will be collected on 12/1 and again on 12/6)

Hey, Omaha Restaurant Week is coming up, starting Friday. Local restaurants. Fixed prices. Fun way to support local while also sampling the goods. This is a food city! 🌮🥗🍝🍜🍲

From September 12-21, 59 restaurants across the metro will
participate in Omaha Restaurant Week, offering three-course dinners at fixed prices of $20, $30, $40 or $50 per person.

New this year is the Omaha Restaurant Week Pass, a digital rewards program that lets diners earn points and prizes each time they dine out. The more you eat, the more you earn, with rewards ranging from restaurant gift cards to an exclusive Omaha Restaurant Week t-shirt.

The event coincides with Hunger Action Month, with 5% of Omaha Restaurant Week menu sales benefiting Food Bank for the Heartland.

City Celebrates New Birth: “Baby Bob” -

The City of Omaha would like to announce the birth of the North Downtown Riverfront Pedestrian Bridge, or “Baby Bob” for short. It connects downtown Omaha with the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge, or “Bob.” Measuring 1,100 feet long feet and weighing in at just under 400 tons, this $7.5 million bundle of concrete and steel is a welcome addition to Omaha’s trail family and growing downtown.

A ribbon cutting event will be held Wednesday (Sept. 10) at 2 p.m. at the downtown entrance to the bridge northeast of 10th Street at Mike Fahey Street.

Omaha Mayor John Ewing called the new arrival an exciting extension for the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge, which opened in 2008 and connects the cities of Omaha and Council Bluffs.

“This new extension bridge reflects the human desire and need to be unified,” Ewing said. “That’s what I love about the Baby Bob – it connects downtown Omaha attractions with the riverfront and with our friends in Iowa.”

At the risk of being redundant (!), another lane closing:

⚠️Beginning Friday, September 5, 2025, at 9:00 a.m., South 108th Street between Mockingbird Drive and Q Street will be restricted to one lane South bound for sewer repair in the outside curb lane by City of Omaha Sewer Maintenance will be in effect for seven (7) days.

Also, weekend events can mean partial street closures for part of the day.

Road/lane closure alert:

⚠️ DOWNTOWN: Upcoming Road Closures: 10th Street and Farnam

Starting Monday, September 8, Farnam Street at 10th Street and
10th Street southbound will be closed for utility work for approximately one month. On Monday, September 15, 10th Street northbound will also be closed for the duration of the work in the
intersection.

Please observe and follow all lane closure signs and barricades. Parking restrictions will also be in
place.

The City of Omaha thanks residents, businesses, and drivers for their patience during the construction
of this project.

More street/lane closures:

⚠️ NW Omaha: Beginning Thursday, September 4, 2025, at 9:00 a.m., the intersection of Blondo Street and North 108th Street will have various lane restrictions for street repair by City of Omaha Street Maintenance and will be in effect for seven (7) days.

⚠️ MIDTOWN: Beginning Thursday, September 4, 2025, at 9:00 a.m., South 50th Street between Leavenworth Street and Mayberry Street will be closed South bound for utility work in the West section.

⚠️ BENSON:  On Friday, September 5, 2025, from 12:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., North 62nd Street will be closed from Maple Street to 2725 North 62nd Street; Military Avenue will be closed from Binney Street to Maple Street for Benson First Friday South/
North Artist Market.

REMINDER:

There will be NO garbage or recyclable materials collection on Monday, September 1, 2025. Collection will be delayed by one day the entire week.

Normal Monday materials should be set out for collection on Tuesday, and Tuesday materials set out on Wednesday, and so forth for the remainder of the week with Friday’s regular collection occurring on Saturday, September 6, 2025.

Carts and tagged yard waste bags must be set out for collection no later than 6:00 am on
your collection day.

Collections will return to the regular Monday through Friday schedule the week of September 8 through September 12, 2025.

Blackstone road construction announcement:

Upcoming Road Closure: 38th Avenue and Farnam Street
August 25, 2025 – Omaha, Neb. – Starting Monday, August 25, the intersection of 38th Avenue and Farnam Street will be partially closed due to ongoing water and sewer utility work. The city's contractoris extending the current center lane closure on Farnam Street to include this intersection.

Drivers should be aware that they will not be able to make left turns onto Farnam from either the north or south. To get to Dodge from northbound 38th Avenue, use the alley to 39th Street. Traffic on Farnam Street will still be able to pass through the intersection and make right turns.

Please observe and follow all lane closure signs and barricades, as this will be a changing situation throughout the duration of the closure. Parking restrictions will also be in place.
