Omaha Alternatives to Violence Project AVP builds on every person’s innate power to positively transform themselves and the world

Omaha Alternatives to Violence Project empowers people to lead nonviolent lives through affirmation, respect, cooperation, trust, and conflict resolution skills. Omaha AVP volunteers offer workshops that provide participants in communities and in prisons with first-hand experience in creative conflict resolution and personal growth. We aim to reduce violence, incarceration and recidivism while promoting a culture of peace and justice.

Bernard Lafayette was with Martin Luther King, Jr the morning of his assassination. He promised King he would spread the Kingian Nonviolence Movement worldwide. Tragically that day ended with the loss of Lafayette's dear friend, MLK, Jr.

Years later, Lafayette carry that philosophy to the Think Tank, a group of African American men in Greenhaven Prison, NY. and the
Alternatives to Violence Project was born.

Our hope is to lift hearts, bring hope and help young men find their paths forward.
