Today on May Day, we celebrate workers and the power of standing together for dignity, fairness, and opportunity for all. I’m especially proud that this session we passed the Worker Bill of Rights to help ensure every worker in Washington is treated with respect and has the protections they deserve. Happy International Workers’ Day! ✊🏾

Today, on International Workers’ Day, we celebrate the hands that build, the minds that create, and the hearts that serve. From doctors to teachers, farmers to artists, truck drivers to baristas, every worker deserves our respect and gratitude.

This session, House Democrats helped score wins for Washington workers by passing the Immigrant Worker Protection Act and the Domestic Worker's Bill of Rights, among others!

Beginning May 4, 2026, this page will not be updated until certification of the November general election.

During an election year, there are certain restrictions on my communications to ensure no state resources are used for election purposes. One of these restrictions is a freeze on this page, which means this page is also unable to accept comments during this period.

Despite these restrictions being in place, if you have questions or comments about legislative issues, please feel free to continue to contact me using the link below. Thank you!

Sen. Emily Alvarado, Rep. Brianna Thomas and I put together a joint newsletter with some highlights from the 2026 legislative session. These should be reaching mailboxes in the 34th District shortly, but here's a digital copy as well:https://housedemocrats.wa.gov/tmp/sites/11/2026/04/47091_34th-Distict_Alvardo-Fitzgibbon-Thomas_EOS-Mailer_2026_8.5x11.pdf

Honoring Dolores Huerta today — a trailblazer who turned organizing into real change. Sí se puede.

April 10th is Dolores Huerta Day here in WA! In 2019, we passed legislation to designate the day and honor the legacy of this incredible civil rights activist, organizer, and labor leader.

Dolores Huerta, a mother and teacher, began her fight aiming to improve the living conditions of her students - many of whom were the children of farmworkers. She went on to co-found what would eventually become the United Farm Workers union, expanding her fight to address working conditions for farmworkers and to advocate for women's equality. She is an inspiring American icon whose strength, leadership, and legacy will be honored in Washington state for years to come!

Let’s go!

Legislative Black Caucus priority bills have been signed into law!

Governor Bob Ferguson signed both HB 2355 and HB 2523 this month, protecting domestic worker’s rights and strengthening the Community Reinvestment Program by improving transparency and accountability, respectively.

I was proud to cosponsor these bills and I want to thank the sponsors, Rep. Brianna Thomas and Rep. Kristine Reeves, for their leadership, as well as all those who contributed throughout the process—especially the stakeholders across Washington. Together, we can accomplish great things for our communities!

Equal Pay Day is a reminder that too many women are still expected to do the same work for less. Proud to support progress like SHB 1905, and committed to keeping up the fight for fairness in every workplace.

Right now, fewer than 1% of Washingtonians would pay under the Millionaires Tax, but the impact would be felt by families across our state.

We’re talking about building a system where working families are no longer carrying the heaviest load, where we can invest in schools, health care, and the services people rely on every day.

Washington has one of the most regressive tax systems in the country. This is about changing that.

Howard Schultz is heading to Miami. Jeff Bezos left in 2023. Now Washington's new 9.9% millionaires tax is testing whether the state's wealthiest residents see their home as more than a line on a tax return.

Session has wrapped, and I want to share a quick update on a couple of important public safety and civil liberties bills we worked on this year.

We were able to move SB 5855, the “Unmasking ICE” bill, which bans federal law enforcement from wearing masks while interacting with the public. That transparency matters for community trust and accountability, and I’m glad to see it advance.

We also passed SB 6002, regulating the use of Flock automated license plate readers. I worked hard with colleagues and community partners to try to shape a balanced policy, but ultimately I could not support the bill as it came to the floor. While it adds some guardrails where there were previously very few, it didn’t go far enough to protect community privacy and civil liberties for me or for the 34th.

This is an important conversation that will continue, and I remain committed to policies that keep people safe while protecting the rights and trust of the communities we serve.
