Washington’s clean energy future depends on reliable transmission.

This past legislative session, I was proud to prime sponsor legislation creating the Washington Electric Transmission Authority — a new tool to help coordinate the grid infrastructure we need to meet growing demand, connect more clean energy, and keep Washington on track with our clean energy laws.

As I shared in this article by Latitude Media, transmission authorities are not a silver bullet, but they are an important tool for building a cleaner, more reliable energy future.

Across the West, states are turning to a unique model to build big again.

Thank you to Camp Waskowitz in North Bend for the terrific tour. This camp, part of the p***c school system, has helped bring school groups together through hands-on learning, environmental education, and developing relationships with the land. As part of public school outdoor education programs, it gives students the chance to step outside the classroom and learn in a different way. Thank you for the opportunity to tour and learn about this special place. 💚🌎

Great to join local leaders, small business owners and community organizations at the East King Chambers Legislative Wrap Up this week. Thank you to everyone who came out and shared your perspectives on the 2026 legislative session and the work ahead for our region.

It was wonderful connecting with members of the The Greater Issaquah Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Information Center, Maple Valley - Black Diamond Chamber of Commerce, Sammamish Chamber and SnoValley Chamber of Commerce, as well as organizations like Encompass NW that are doing incredible work supporting children, families and communities across the 5th Legislative District.

I’m grateful for the chance to meet with both new and well-established businesses and community partners who help make our region strong. Looking forward to continuing this work together.

Last week I joined leaders from across the region at the PNW Solar + Storage Conference hosted by WASEIA and OSSIA.

I appreciated the opportunity to speak alongside Oregon Rep. John Lively and connect with advocates, policymakers and industry leaders focused on the future of clean energy in our region.

Big thanks to Phaedra Beckert and the WASEIA team, who worked closely with us this session on policies supporting residential battery storage, grid resilience and more affordable energy for Washington families.

These partnerships and conversations are so important as we continue building a more sustainable future.

I’m really saddened to hear about the passing of Senator Sam Hunt. Even in brief interactions, he was one of those people who made you feel genuinely seen and welcomed.

When I first joined the Senate, he greeted me with a smile and joked about us both serving as “Senator Hunt,” a lighthearted moment about our shared last name and the idea of me continuing it in the Legislature. That exchange stayed with me because of how warm and kind he was.

He often spoke with real pride about the voter reforms he helped lead in Washington, the kind of work that quietly but powerfully shapes people’s lives and strengthens our democracy.

He leaves behind a legacy of service, integrity, and genuine kindness in how he treated others. My heart is with his family and loved ones.

Now that the 2026 legislative session has wrapped up, I hope you’ll join Rep. Zach Hall, Representative Lisa Callan, and me for an in-person 5th Legislative District town hall this Tuesday, April 28.

We’ll share an update on what we accomplished this session, talk about the work still ahead, and most importantly, hear directly from you. We truly value the opportunity to connect in person.

Your thoughts, concerns, and priorities help guide the work we do, and we hope to see you there.
