It was great to spend time in North Bend touring Si View Park and visiting the North Bend Farmers Market with Mayor Mary Miller.

Strong communities are built through investments in the places where people live, work, and gather. I’m grateful for the opportunity to hear directly from local leaders, small business owners, and community members about what’s working and where we can continue to invest in the 5th Legislative District.

I recently had the opportunity to tour two exciting examples of the innovation happening right here in our state.

At Snohomish PUD’s Arlington operations center, I saw how their microgrid can keep critical operations running during a power outage, helping crews coordinate emergency repairs when they’re needed most. They’re also building a 25 MW battery facility that will be the largest in Washington when it comes online later this year.

I also visited Helion’s headquarters in Everett to learn more about their work developing fusion energy and its potential role in our clean energy future.

From strengthening the grid today to exploring the energy technologies of tomorrow, Washington is at the forefront of exciting work. I’m grateful to the teams who showed me what they’re building in our community.

City leaders are leading on clean energy - love to see it! Great article here authored by Issaquah Councilmember Jiang on how cities can help us build the clean energy future we need in WA. Forests are far more threatened by climate change than by the presence of electrical infrastructure. ⚡️🌎🌲

To get batteries built on the timeline that climate change requires, city governments must lead the way and welcome clean energy in our backyards.

Our first-ever Aire Craft Festival was such a wonderful celebration of imagination, creativity and community! 🪂

It was incredible to see the dedication that went into bringing this event to life while celebrating Issaquah’s paragliding community and its long history of supporting the visual and performing arts.

As a legislator, I’m proud to celebrate the creativity, culture and community spirit that make our region such a special place to live. I was honored to be included in the festival’s opening ceremonies and to help celebrate this exciting new tradition in our community. Thank you to everyone who worked so hard to make the Aire Craft Festival a reality!

Thank you to Republic Services for the tour of the recycling plant. It was great to see how important statewide recycling policies, including the Recycling Reform Act (SB 5284), are carried out at the facility level. The Recycling Reform Act requires producers to fund and manage statewide recycling of packaging waste, which not only expands access to recycling services across Washington but also incentivizes producers to reduce packaging waste.

I recently toured the Rainbow Bend restoration project along the Cedar River with Puget Sound Partnership.

It was inspiring to see what’s possible when we invest in both our communities and our natural environment. Rainbow Bend has helped reduce flood risk, restore salmon habitat, and reconnect 40 acres of floodplain while creating new opportunities for people to enjoy the river.

Projects like this show how we can make our communities more resilient while protecting the ecosystems that make Washington such a special place.

I recently had the pleasure of attending the groundbreaking of Trailhead Apartments, a new development that will bring 154 affordable rental homes to Issaquah.

I was serving on the Issaquah City Council when this project was first being planned, so seeing it officially break ground was especially meaningful. And it was great to reconnect with former Mayor Fred Butler, who was part of those early conversations.

Affordable housing doesn’t happen overnight. It takes vision, partnership, and sustained investment and I’m proud to keep doing that work at the state level.

Last month, I had the opportunity to join a panel during PNW Climate Week to discuss one of the biggest challenges and opportunities in our clean energy future: electrical transmission.

Building more clean energy is only part of the equation. We also need the transmission infrastructure to deliver that power where it’s needed, strengthen grid reliability, and keep energy affordable for Washington families and businesses.

These are exactly the kinds of conversations we’re having in the Legislature as we work to modernize our energy system, reduce emissions, and build a resilient electric grid that can support our growing state.

Earlier this summer I joined Governor Bob Ferguson for the announcement of Washington’s historic carbon market linkage agreement with California and Québec.

This landmark partnership will help reduce greenhouse gas emissions, strengthen our clean energy economy and create more family-wage jobs across our state while encouraging long-term investment in clean energy.

As a legislator, I’m proud to support policies that move Washington toward a cleaner, more resilient future. Tackling climate change and growing our economy go hand in hand, and partnerships like this show what’s possible when we lead with bold, forward-thinking solutions.
