If you’re not a law enforcement officer, it needs to be illegal to wear something that gives the impression that you are.

I signed that common-sense change into state law, which will make Washingtonians safer and hold imposters accountable.

Thanks to Rep. Obras and Sen. Cortes.

Yesterday was a powerful reminder of what it looks like when community voices shape policy.

I was honored to join Governor Bob Ferguson at Centro de la Raza for a special bill signing of HB 2165. This legislation is about something simple but critical: trust and safety in our communities. By preventing individuals from impersonating law enforcement, we’re helping ensure that when someone asks for help, they can trust who’s standing in front of them.

I’m deeply grateful to Governor Ferguson for signing this bill into law and for his continued commitment to community safety. Thank you as well to our partners in the Senate, especially Sen. Adrian Cortes, for sponsoring the companion bill and helping move this work forward.

This bill was shaped by real concerns from our communities, and it’s a step toward greater accountability, transparency, and peace of mind for Washingtonians.

HB 2155 protects the nursing title from being inappropriately used by artificial technology, passed the Senate with unamended and with bipartisan support.

It has been delivered to the Governor’s desk and signed! This is a major win for all of our hard-working nurses, health care professionals, and for patients across Washington. It protects the integrity of the profession and the quality of our health care, and I am happy to see it cross the finish line.
