During an election year, there are certain restrictions on my communications to prevent the use of state resources for election purposes. One of these restrictions is a freeze on this Facebook account, meaning the page will not be updated beginning May 4, 2026, until after the general election in November. I hope this modest training requirement helps future construction workers navigate the demands of the job, look out for one another, and get help early — so fewer families experience tragic loss and more workers can keep building Washington’s affordable homes, roads, bridges, and ferries.

A bill passed by the Washington Legislature will require behavioral health training in construction trades, where su***de is seen at higher rates.

I grew up riding our ferries, and my family relied on them every day. After years of disruptions, I’m on a personal mission to help get Washington moving again.

That’s why I sponsored HB 1923, the Mosquito Fleet Act. It gives local communities more tools to stand up passenger-only foot ferry service so we can add near-term options while Washington State Ferries builds out the hybrid-electric fleet that will take time to deliver.

This bill got a hearing in the Senate Transportation Committee last week, and it’s continuing to move forward. Monday, it was voted out of that committee.

House Bill 1923 by Rep. Greg Nance, a Kitsap Democrat, is scheduled for an executive session Monday in the Senate Transportation Committee.

With some of the federal cuts coming down, we as a state need to be thoughtful about how do we create more connections and more access, and this is a comparatively cost effective way to do exactly that.

The Mosquito Fleet Act, a bill sponsored by Rep. Greg Nance, could restore historic routes like San Juan Islands to Sidney, British Columbia.

Puget Sound used to have the Mosquito Fleet — small passenger ferries that connected communities quickly and affordably.

Kitsap’s Fast Ferries show it still works today. That’s why I introduced the Mosquito Fleet Act (HB 1923) to let local governments and tribes run passenger ferries again and supplement WSF when service is disrupted.

HB 1923 passed the House 84–11. Now it’s in the Senate.

I’m eager to join this panel and speak on “Fast Ferries, Safe Streets, and Connected Communities.” Part of my remarks will focus on the Mosquito Fleet Act, which passed the House on Monday. You can watch this event for free online, and I hope you can make it!

This week was Day of Remembrance — a solemn reminder of one of the darkest chapters in our nation’s history, when Japanese Americans were forcibly removed from their homes and incarcerated simply because of their heritage.

On the House floor, we honored the Japanese American community and the generations who endured injustice with extraordinary resilience, and we recommitted ourselves to telling the truth about what happened, so it’s never repeated.

On Bainbridge, this history is especially close to home. Bainbridge was one of the first communities impacted by the wartime removal, and it’s also a place where neighbors have continued to show what it looks like to stand up for immigrant communities — then and now.

Day of Remembrance isn’t just about looking back. It’s about choosing, every day, to defend civil liberties, reject hate, and protect the dignity of every person who calls Washington home.

We remember. We honor. And we keep working to make sure this never happens again.
