Happy Friday from Olympia! Here's an update on cutoff, Day of Remembrance, and my town hall this weekend.

02/20/2026

February 19 is the annual Day of Remembrance. On Wednesday, the Senate observed the anniversary of President Franklin D. Roosevelt signing Executive Order 9066, authorizing the forced removal of Japanese Americans from their homes. I couldn't help but reflect on the parallels between 1942 and our current moment and how pervasive a role division plays. Today I remember my family, loved ones, and everyone impacted by EO 9066.

Today the Senate passed SB 5947, creating the Washington Health Care Board. This is an important step in implementing universal health care across Washington state. Thank you to the advocates and stakeholders who helped along the way! The bill now heads to the House of Representatives for consideration.

Happy Lunar New Year! I hope for a happy, healthy, and peaceful year ahead.
