Serving as your State Senator is an honor. Nothing is more important to me than staying in touch with everyone I represent. Due to election-year restrictions on official communications, I won’t be able to communicate with you here on my Senator Lovick page or through my website newsletter until results are certified in November.

Of course, I am still here for you. If you need anything, anytime, please continue to reach out to my office. You can find my office's contact information on my page.

The 44th district has outstanding students. I am happy to do anything in my power to help our students learn and thrive. I am especially glad that we were able to help Brody Schwarz from Bothell get in touch with our federal representatives to secure their recommendation and gain acceptance to West Point Military Academy. Congratulations, Brody.

I was proud to attend the graduation of 27 new peace officers from our Criminal Justice Training Academy in Burien. Our academies provide the exceptional training necessary to ensure law enforcement professionals have the knowledge and skills to safely protect the people they serve. When an officer graduates, you can be sure they have been taught our values of leadership, integrity, dignity, and accountability.

I was so impressed by the intellect, ingenuity, and excellence displayed by our students at the Fernwood Elementary Science Fair. These students took their own curiosity, and the skills they learned in class to better understand the world around them. The brilliance of our children, and the success of our educators, was evident in every exhibit.

Today, 29 peace officers graduated from our Southwest Regional Training Academy in Vancouver. Our academies are teaching a diverse new generation of officers service, integrity and accountability. These young officers are the future of the profession, carrying on our positive and productive police culture.

Today, Governor Ferguson signed SB 5974 to ensure that ANYONE who has the power to detain, arrest, and use force on Washingtonians is well-trained, highly prepared, and professional. As a former sheriff, I know how important it is to look through the lens of leadership. This bill, which holds our Police Chiefs, Marshals and Sheriffs to the same standard of conduct which they ask from every other rank-and-file officer in the state, abides by the simple principle: Great Leaders lead by example.

Tuesday, Governor Ferguson signed Senate Bill 5420 to ensure that our veterans, uniformed service members, and military spouses can access the benefits they have earned through their service. Our veterans risked their lives to protect their neighbors at home. They made a promise to prioritize our safety even above their own. Now, we will ensure that we hold up our end of that promise and allow them timely access to critical benefits and services.

Yesterday, Governor Ferguson signed SB 5272 to make our schools and student sports safer. Over half our referees have felt unsafe on the job, contributing to staffing shortages and canceled games. Extracurricular sports teach our youth teamwork, leadership, and dedication. I am proud to see us push back against poor sportsmanship, protecting our student sporting events so they are welcoming for everyone on, or off, the field.

Yesterday, Governor Ferguson signed SB 5068, a bill I introduced to allow more of our hardworking community members contribute to Washington’s culture of public safety and civil service.

It was an honor to attend the Mays Pond Playground ribbon cutting today. This playground represents many hours of hard work, and a deep dedication to improving our community. Not only among those who dedicated themselves to having it built, but also among the 250+ people who joined us to celebrate it's opening.
