As the school year is coming to an end, Filemon Vela Middle School hosted their GEAR UP College and Career Day. The Cameron County Sheriff’s Office is thankful for the invitation and the opportunity to speak with students about what a career in law enforcement entails.

On Wednesday, members of the Cameron County Sheriff’s Office PAW Crew proudly joined Commissioner Sofia C. Benavides, local Constables, and the Restitution Center team in helping with a community food distribution event. Fresh produce and vegetables were distributed to families throughout the community.

Man Arrested After Cameron County Crime Stoppers Tip Leads to Drug Seizure

Date: May 15, 2026 CASE #: 2026-10639
Location: 3900 Joseph Street, Brownsville, Texas
Suspect: Brandon Duran (DOB: 01/05/1998) was arrested and charged with:
Crimes: Possession of Ma*****na • Manufacture or Delivery of Controlled Substance PG-1

Brief synopsis

A man was arrested in Brownsville, Texas, after a Crime Stoppers tip led narcotics investigators to a home where they found mid-level quantities of drugs.
On May 15, 2026, the Cameron County Special Investigations Unit responded to a Crime Stoppers tip about possible narcotics distribution at a home on the 3900 block of Joseph Street. Investigators developed probable cause and obtained a search warrant for the residence. During the search, they found co***ne and ma*****na, both in bulk and packaged in individual baggies. Duran was arrested and charged with possession of Ma*****na and Manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance.

Thursday, May 14th, 2026, Sheriff Manuel Treviño and the Cameron County Sheriff’s Office proudly hosted our first Police Memorial Ceremony to honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their communities.

This meaningful ceremony included the dedication of our Memorial Wall located in front of the Sheriff’s Office, the names of our fallen heroes were added so that their legacy and sacrifice will forever be remembered.

It was an emotional and heartfelt event as everyone gathered alongside the families of our fallen heroes, elected officials, numerous law enforcement agencies, and students from various high school criminal justice programs. Their presence made this occasion even more special and served as a reminder that the courage and dedication of our fallen officers continue to inspire future generations.

Sheriff Treviño would like to extend his sincere gratitude to everyone who helped make this ceremony possible and to all who attended, especially the families of our fallen heroes. Your presence and support meant more than words can express.

The service and sacrifice of our heroes will never be forgotten.

Today, the City of San Benito honored the life and legacy of Lt. Milton Resendez with a highway dedication in his memory. It was meaningful to see law enforcement agencies from across Cameron County come together during National Police Week to remember and honor Lt. Resendez and his service to our community.

His family was present for this special occasion and witnessed the unveiling of the highway sign dedicated in his honor. Their presence made the ceremony even more meaningful as we continue to remember the sacrifice, dedication, and lasting impact Lt. Resendez had on so many throughout Cameron County.

Sheriff Manuel Treviño and the Cameron County Sheriff’s Office extend our continued thoughts and prayers to the Resendez family and all who had the privilege of serving alongside Lt. Resendez.
